Large cents are superficially covered in Walter Breen's Complete Encyclopedia of U.S. and Colonial Coins but the photography is limited.
<< <i>Bill Noyes: US Large Cents, two volumes 1793-1814 and 1816-1839. These cost about $300 for the set, but are well done and worth it.

Joining EAC is a bargain, you get the Pennywise.
The Noyes' books are $250 for both, with shipping from Charles Davis.
...and, if you want to do the late dates, the book is "The Die Varities of United States Large Cents 1840-1857"
by John R. Grellman (Bob). You can buy it from the man himself: ljefferys@cfl.rr.com, $100 postpaid, autographed
upon request.
Also, join Early American Coppers (www.eacs.org).
The best piece of advice that I can give you (other than the usual-'buy the book.....')
is to decide what you want to collect within the realm of large cents. The series is so
long and there are so many die varities. You may want to pick a year, like 1803, and
do a Sheldon set. Or a classic head set, etc.
Enjoy!
I think the books are a good starting point... I didnt realize how many varieties were involved..
I appreciate the info.
