Show report - Buena Park, CA

This was a first time at this local show, and I was very impressed.

TrainNut and I went today, arriving around 10:30. I went to see Charmy (aka The Penny Lady), who had promised me in a PM to introduce me to a dealer who pays fair for Canadian Coins. I normally don't do these, but I had a truckload of lower value stuff from a deal I bought earlier this week. So, she made the intro as promised, and it worked out very well for an easy all cash deal. Thanks again, Charmy!

Flush from that deal, TrainNut and I went on to sell of some circulated stuff, including his Long Beach $4 pickoff of a 1908-S Indian cent. On advice from Illini, TrainNUt had the numbers burned into hsi brain, and we quickly found a dealer and sold him a bunch of "stuff" including the Indian - another easy all cash deal. Now TrainNut is flush from his score. We searched out other dealers, and I bought a circulated deal of problem free G-VG Barber halves and a handful of 46-D walkers.

We had an enjoyable lunch with Illini and BNB, met robkool and I did see WTCG from across the room and had a nice show. The room was packed, and most of the dealers were doing business. It seemed to me all the dealers were happy, there were very few tire kickers - the crowd wanted to buy and sell. From this small view, the market seems very strong and liquid.

I ended up the day by purchased a very nifty S mint morgan with beautiful rim toning directly out of an old album, plus a very pretty toned half dime from the same book.

All in all, a nice day doing coins. The wife will make me pay - I get to clean the garage tomorrow imageimage

About 60 dealers, and the room was stuffed. I would call it a decent sized room - about the size of a high school basketball court.

    Nice report. Thanks.

For those in Southern California, there is still time. because there is a Sunday for this show and most of the dealers are there for the morning shift. Some good things not mentioned are the free parking and low admission charge ($2 if I recall, but it has been some time since I've been to the Buena Park show). There are also nearby fast food places so lunch can be had for a small price as well.

    Cheers.
