Comments: WI D High Leaf Quarter PCGS MS 67

Currently one of only two WI D Extra High Leaf Quarters graded by PCGS as MS 67 is offered on Ebay. Ebay # 150421761203. I do not own this coin. I am trying to understand why this coin is MS67: Is it the lack of blemishes? Is it the depth of the strike? This is a learning process for me. Please render your comments concerning the MS 67 grade. Thanks. Please link this thread to the Ebay auction for illustration purposes. Thanks.

What do you think it should grade? I can think of a whole bunch of things I would spend 17K on before I would even consider this coin.

Nothing says wow to me on that one. IMO to get a 67+ it better say Wow!

Wow! I just checked and that one pays out in spades when it comes to registry points.
    Dang.

Per the photos it looks decent for an MS67 and believe it's a compilation of all the qualities you listed above that make the grade.

Rule number (I can't recall, but it probably is a numbered rule, and if not, should be): If you can't understand the grade or price of a coin, don't buy it.

Steve at Vancouver Rare Coin in Vancouver, Washington made the first two MS67 High and Low leaf coins. I think he submitted over 400 coins to get one MS67 of each type. I had thought he sold this coin already but after checking his auctions today I also saw this coin had been listed. When I first saw him buying these things up I really thought he had lost his marbles. I guess he did not though.

Steve takes real quick pictures and I bet the coin looks much better in hand. I know for sure his Lincolns do.

That's close to as nice as you'll find any non mint set clad quarter. You can
find slightly better strikes and quite a bit cleaner but getting both at once
    is pretty unusual.

They graded it on a "curve".

i have the set in 65's pcgs, and must admit that coin looks clean, alot of money ......... i know the price on the set has dropped in the last year big time but it was still a cool find, now if i can just get all these nevada quarters with the pooping horses graded wonder if pcgs reconizes those for grading?

the closeups don't show the luster that the whole slab does

I am sure it is dripping with luster and just glows to get that grade

My high leaf 67 by ANACS looks every bit as good as that one does. In fact it looks better.

The only ones that don't look that good are the ones graded by NGC, most of them are way off (sorry NGC folks but true).
