2005 S Bison Nickel Proof

Bought a Coin! NGC PF70UC Jefferson larger portrait with the bison reverse.
the more I look at it, the more I like the design. The Obverse, is really modern and dynamic. The larger portrait shows like sculpture. The Bison...he looks like he would lose in a shoveing match with the ol one...but still is far better than that old house for a change!

price $20 and he had a box of them! Lucky collectors of the distant future who get these, will marvel at the preservation and beauty. This is a great gift to a YN collector!

  • I wish they would have kept this obverse (the reverse would would have been a nice permanent change too). It was different, innovative and IMO if we have to have presidents, instead of liberty or native Americans (my preference) images, that's about one of the best.

Nice example, not sure if those spots are on the holder. The buff appears to be urinating.

the obverse may look nice on a Proof coin but on the Mint State coins it took hits very badly. finding a 2005 Mint State coin better than MS65 is tough.

he looks like he would lose in a shoveing match with the ol one

that's mainly because the Bison on the Buffalo Nickel was about one-and-a-half times the size of this design. overall the detail is quite a bit better and the modeling makes the animal look much more lifelike IMHO.

could you imagine still having this coin and the new shield cent? We would actually be evolving into some decent coinage again.

I got a roll each of P & D and put them in a Nike shoebox when I got them five years ago. Three of the four end coins in the rolls have turned gold and one of the coins is turning a rose shade.

I have about a dozen 2 roll sets in the closet somewhere. Bought from the Mint at $8.95ea. imageimage

Need the following OBW rolls to complete my 46-64 Roosevelt roll set:
    1947-P & D; 1948-D; 1949-P & S; 1950-D & S; and 1952-S.
Any help locating any of these OBW rolls would be gratefully appreciated!
