How long until ??

So how long until a CAC sticker no longer means anything? Recently I have seen SEVERAL high end coins with a CAC sticker not cross to one of the big TPG services. Usually a CAC on a high end coin helps that coin sell for top dollar when brought to auction. With so many high end coins with CAC stickers not crossing at a TPG in the assigned grade then whats the point of a CAC sticker. I know a cac sticker is jsut another opinion but its a proven fact that it does help when it comes to resale but if a major TPG wont agree with the assigned grade even with a CAC sticker then whats the point.

In the eyes of many it never meant much to begin with but it will take a while before that attitude spreads hobby wide. Barring any corruption on CAC's part it'll likely never happen.

  • It may or may not mean much to some here but like I previously stated it is a proven fact that a CAC coin will usually pull more money at auction then a non cac coin.

Im sure it was the coin and not that sticker that brought that strong price.

You have, in part, provided your own answer/opinion already: "... but its a proven fact that it does help when it comes to resale".

Buy the coin etc, but what is wrong with having another opinion already there, knowing that it will probably help, and certainly won't hurt at resale time? I bought three commems in Baltimore, the most expensive was NGC no bean, the middle PCGS w/ CAC, the cheapest a PCGS, no sticker. I would have bought any of them with or without a bean but I feel the stickered one has a little "bonus" attached. When I'm looking at a 66 or 67 commem where sometimes the difference in grade can be minimal, a CAC sticker is like having an expert there with you. Not everyone in this hobby has been gradin for years, or will ever acquire the eye to pick a 67 from a 68. Having said that, I certainly would never buy a coin just because it has a sticker.

PS there was a corresponding thread running, I think it went "poof".
