What classic design would you like to see on american platinum eagles??
Many of us have expressed disappointment with the designs of our coinage.Between uninspired ideas, poor execution, and old presidents many mint offerings have become ho hum.
The silver american eagle uses the design of the walking liberty half dollar and the gold american eagle uses the st. gaudens design for the double eagle. Both coins considered to be fantastic designs.
So if the decision was yours to make, what classic design would you like to see on the obverse of the platinum american eagle??

But my first choice would be to leave the design as it is.
crappy designs coming out today. And I don't see that there actually is a solution. As long as you have
so many people, designers, sculptors, committees, executives, etc. involved in selecting coin designs, they
will most likely remain boring forever. The more people that a design has to pass through before
it is finally executed, the more likely it is to be sterilized.
I really like the original one-year reverse series with eagles over America. I got less enthusiastic when they started glorifying the govt itself on the back of the coins...and even less so with paid political messages. That said, the changing reverse is just another reason why this series has so much potential.

I hate it when anything classic is leveraged to produce or sell a modern product. It is always watered down and never really captures the spirit and soul of the original work. Who would want it and what is the point? I collect classic coins and think it is an insult and cheapens the originals. For example, the ASE have made me hate Walkers even more. And the new SG is really a sick joke and makes me even less interested in SGs.
