My favorite half dollar commem
Not necessarily this particular coin, but this commem. I've always liked 'em. Actually owned one at one time. Traded it for my first GSA dollar....which I still own.

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
<< <i>For my favorite, I'd have to go with the one with the coolest eagle to ever grace an American coin
JH >>
Agreed. One of the best eagles ever, and probably my second favorite commem.
Edit to add: Compare this masterpiece with the garbage Lincoln commem we got last year.

That's what I call booming luster!
<< <i>I'm partial to this one as well:
I like that one too. You probably already know but the obverse is a play on Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca, which literally means "head of a cow".

Close to my heart, what can I say being native to the Nutmeg State
Picking a favorite commem, well that's easy, the Oregon, or maybe the Lincoln, or the Pilgrim, Bay Bridge, I love the Vermont, and the Gettysburg and Antietam, what about the Connecticut or the Missouri or Vancouver. The right Hawaii or Pan Pac can be breathtaking. The eagle on the Bridgeport is great and there are five or so that have very cool ships. I haven't even mentioned the Lafayette, I guess picking a favorite isn't that easy.
I'm just getting started on a Dansco 7070 and figured I'd keep my eyes out for some well priced commemoratives. My list included:
Antienem
Bay Bridge
Gettysburg
Iowa (home state)
California Jubilee
Connecticut
Gettysburg
Grant
Lincoln/Illinois
Oregon Trail
Sesquicentennial
Stone Mountain
Terribly decisive wasn't I?
When I first saw it, I was working for Pinnacle Rarities (a company that I cannot say enough great things about) and we were excitedly looking at fantastic commem collection belonging to a client who had decided to part with it. At the time, the Lexington below was uncertified. As soon as I saw it, I said something to the effect of "This is the best Lexington I have ever seen and I think it is a 68". I knew that since there were no MS68's and very few MS67's certified, the odds of it actually receiving a 68 were extremely slim. But it did, and most deservedly so. It did, and still does, blow away any other Lexington I have seen. And I make statements like that about specific coins, only on very rare occasions
Oh, and by the way, I think it looks better in person.
<< <i>I think that's awesome how the obverse is in a PCI holder and the reverse is in a PCGS holder! >>
I told you I didn't like that particular coin.

<< <i>The Lexington is not my favorite classic commem design. And the coin below might not be my favorite half dollar commem. But it could be the most memorable to me.

Bruce, I think you did OK with it.
<< <i>Goes hand in hand with the Hawaiian posted in a recent thread. Were they in same collection? Bruce's? >>
The Hawaiian and Lexington came out of different collections.

I am two coins away, 47-P and 47-D, from having 2 complete sets of BTW's in PCGS slabs. I wish I had pics of them. Been working on them for years. Have always tried to avoid the ones which displays porosity on BTW's cheek.

<< <i> Also, justacommeman, how did the white Grant slip into your collection??? >>
1) Hard to find a REALLY nice toned example
2) This is 66* bordering on a 67. Impossible to capture the true essense of this coin in a photo.
3) I knew Ricko would love it
4) the main reason is that Gregg Bingham threatened to buy it if I passed on it
Gregg and Larry are my "commem consularies"
