I thought someone once explained the process.

Order and prepay for them yourself. Otherwise, unless their commercial customers have need for additional cents they have no reason to order them.

edit: Nor should they do so. Same thing with dollar coins. Otherwise the coins just sit around the vault taking up space.

figure out a way to get citizens to hoard all the cents currently in circulation so merchants need them for commerce. short of that, unless your bank really likes you it's a long shot. remember, coins are struck to facilitate commerce and there is a dwindling need the almighty Cent.

Make your request with the vault teller. There shouldn't be an ordering process "per say" as they will have boxes on hand.

ETA: Nevermind, I just saw that you said NEW.

ETAx2: You don't deserve any since you called them pennies. /shakefist

When a bank makes a request like that, the bank also pays an extra charge for that service..

When a banks orders change they get what ever is available form thier source.

    It was I...

search for my thread with the word "Score" in it....

I also sent you a PM once on it.

(and the Fed Res. is already saying they will not guarantee order for boxes of quarters will be America the Beautiful Quarters.... they stopped after the Territories. However, they still guarantee the pres. dollars. as can be seen on their web site listed in the other thread.

No, the branches do not pay an additional fee for special requests to their supplier. They simply make the request and the supplier is either able to fulfill it or not.

I definitely know they pay for coin deliveries... that is obvious... it's a service they have contracted for with the armored car companies.

However, I can't confirm they have to pay extra for ordering new coin or new currency....

My bank used to tell me they just had to make a call to do it.... they never mentioned an extra fee as part of the extra trouble. It was another branch mgr. that told me it was an extra fee for it.

Try calling Oklahoma Coin Exchange, or any of several other dealers on the C.C.E. that have them in stock.

That's why I said "additional". The bank, specifically the vault manager, makes the request for newly minted coinage to the supplier. Either they fulfill it or they don't.

I can order all the lincolns cents i want. I place an order thru the bank by noon on friday and pick them up wensday morning. The only problem is the armour car company has a bad habit of mixing new cents with the old ones and then they put them in the shrink wrap tubes.image

I did manage to get 123 boxes of lincoln number 2 and 3 that were all uncs. Last i looked they were only bringing about 40 bucks or less on ebay so i just use them to weight the safe down.

    depends on your bank

many will order boxes specifically for you

some will request the coins do not come back to them

many will say their source can not guarantee any year as the rolls are part of the circulation 'mix' that gets delivered
and only topped off with new stuff when they need to
and the new stuff could be from a few years ago

Go to your bank and buy every box of cents they have. They will have to replentish their supply. Go back a week later and trade them out. Unfortunately if your banks are like the banks here they will get recirculated cents as replacements instead of new onesimage

Being married to one I can tell you I have a better chance of getting a cup of coffee from her than a roll.

And the chances are the coffee wont be hot either.

Sometimes - i sweeten the deal for the main teller.

Usually every other time i order some boxes i give some candy like a bag of Hersey kisses.
Just to show that i appreciate all the hassle. I know they are doing me a favor for ordering boxes of coins.

I dont order too many boxes - its like 3-4 boxes every few months. Sometimes I feel bad because the teller has to go to the safe, have to fill out a form for the withdrawal, the safe is in the back of the bank, she then wheels her chair to the back to move the boxes of coins to the counter because they are too heavy for her. also, i try not to stop by on a Friday which is payday for many.
  • Hello, I work for one the larger armored car companies in texas. I can tell you that you can get new boxes of coin from banks, only if like the new quarters or pennys are due to be released. Banks order by automated systems which will tell them if new coins are going to be available. They are limited to how many boxes they can order too, per how many branches they have. All new coin except new design penny, state quarter, pres dollars are just mixed with remaining inventory. We used to get from mint new bags of quarters in 1000.00 bags, dimes in 1000.00 bags, nickels in 200.00 bags and pennys in 50.00 bags, the coin now comes in bulk bags on pallets, 2 to 3 thousand lbs bags. Armored car companies also charge a small fee for each roll of coin, something like 2 to 3 cents each, so 50 rolls to box. Banks do not pass that to customers, that would be crazy. Very few banks roll their own coin, machines are expensive and break down all the time.
