A couple days ago I posted a thread about a roll of 2009-D Business strike nickels I had purchased from my local coin shop.At the shop I asked the man that works there if the coins had came from mint sets and he told me no.Then he told me how the shop owner had a friend that ran a bank and had been trying to order the 2009 Denver nickels and dimes since early last year and finally got a few rolls.I asked "are you sure these did not come from the mint sets?"He said,"these are the business strike coins that came from bank rolls."Any ways I bought a roll and thought I would put one up for sale on E-bay and see what it would bring.A few people had e-mailed me and asked about 09-D dimes as well and I decided to try and contact the coin shop owner and make sure the coins were business strike coins from bank rolls and attempt to purchase a roll of dimes.
Well I looked up the coin shops phone # and knowing they are closed on Mondays was wishing I knew the shop owners full name so I could call him personally.Luckily the owners phone # was also listed as an alternate # under the shops.I called and he was home.I explained that I had bought a roll of 09-D nickels on Saturday and was interested in some of the dime rolls.I asked,"Those did come from bank rolls didn't they?"He said,"Oh no,those are from 09 mint sets."
You can imagine how I felt.I was a little upset, but simply asked if I could return the roll and he said sure and apollogised for the mix up.I immediately cancelled my auction and e-mailed the high bidder and explained what had happened. Now I would also like to formally appologise to all you that got involved with the earlier thread.I guess I should have known it was too good to be true.

Sooner or later they will come flooding out though. Can you say 2001 kennedy anyone?

Simply a different finish as far as I know. The 09 nickels and dimes from Denver are being held by the Federal Reserves.

I like that!

Maybe the GSA will sell them off in 2105?

The coins produced for the Mint sets have satin finish surfaces. The coins produced for general circulation will have a glossy surface. They are easily discernible when placed beside each other. The Mint set coins are always more aesthetically appealing than the circulation strikes, IMHO. Especially the bicentennial Lincoln cents.

Ahh thanks for that! I know little of modern coins other than I spend them.
