PA-02 may be what the park represents to some people "now", and the park ranger may be doing a great job conveying the history, emotion, and importance of this park but the coin doesn't. Yellowstone to many people may be Park Rangers, carnival-like crowds, and Old Faithful countdowns but those things do not capture the granduer, beauty and importance of the Park. I would like to see art on the coin that grabs the holder, and makes them think just a bit about what went on there, it's history. it's cost, and it's importance. The tiny details in this design, on a small quarter, will grab no one and make no statement. I refuse to believe with the incredible subject matter presented by Gettysburg that a creative artist could not come up with something better.
Well then, did you ask the residents (like me) of that area what their feelings were on the designs??
1. Public input was/is available from the first release of the images. Everyone who is interested has the same opportunity for input and to express their opinion. 2. Gettysburg National Military Park belongs to all the nation and to the memory of all who fought there. That someone lives nearby, or in the village, is not material - the events long ago made Gettysburg transcendent over any physical spot. That is why it deserves more than common place, thoughtless treatment on the quarter.
There are bills in Congress for commemorative coins for the Gettysburg battle, but none have enough cosponsors yet for consideration.
