Grading is a lot like raising children

It is an evolving system wracked with conflict, human error, demands being made
beyond the ability to comply. Parental (TPG) monetary concerns versus the child's
(Collectors) desire for more, better, cheaper of everything.
Collectors are split between more complex vrs simpler grading systems.
How do we correct for the enormous value leaps between two grades?
Can a coin be adequately defined by a numerical grade alone?
Can we let the market place alone , define the value of a coin? Does that protect the collector?
Should a TPG attempt to specify and grade all aspects of a coin's appearance?
Should TPG treat all collectors as experienced and prudent adults. Or ,should the collector be
considered an immature, undiciplined and uneducated animal, that needs protection, if even from
themselves.
How controlled by grading complexity, should the coin market become?
Are TPG Companies a service or a parent?
I do not raise these issues seeking specific answeres, but rather as items for thought and reflection.

can be screwed, blued and tatooed repeatedly. Unless one is collecting fair to
about good coinage, only a few have the ability, knowledge and experience to
protect themselves from over grading, doctored or phony coins. For every three
collectors that say I can do it, I can show you two collectors who have been
screwed. For those proud holders of raw coins that brag that they have never
sold a coin. Are many of you in for a big surprise and it won't be pleasant.
