Thought I'd share my 1962 Topps Set --- I'm considering it finished

It's mostly raw, although you wouldn't know it from these scans. There are about 150 PSA graded cards and the rest are raw NM-ish. I bought the first cards for this particular set from Nick (Nam812), and got help from quite a few board members (RonBurgundy, Oakesy, Hoofhearted, and many more).

I've currently got 3 complete sets of 62's -- this one is the best of them. I did it all graded once before -- about a 7.25 as I recall.

Anyway, here are the keys:

  • Nice cardboard! Thanks for sharing.
  • 62's are a love/hate relationship. There is nothing (short of 1990 Topps) uglier than a poor condition 62. But when they are right, they are SO nice. Nice cards!!! You must be chomping at the bit for the Heritage next year.

Thanks fellas -- I'm going to keep this one (I think) and sell off the other two sets - one is about a 6.75, the other about a 6. Got a bunch of extra 70's sets to sell too - just too busy with work/school/family these days (yet still finding time to buy image )

Nice work Mike, they look great. That Banks is especially nice, and looks sharper than the Killebrew to me.

  • Congrats, Mike! Awesome selection of '62Ts. I can't begin to pick a favorite of the photos you've posted. You've got some gems!

You shouldn't include me as one helping you -- you've pretty much put me "in the game" in the Set Registry with my first major purchase from you back in July of 2005. That trade we made last November was pretty much one-sided in my favor -- and don't think I didn't notice or appreciate it!! In fact the 7 Maris and 7 Mays I sent to you were part of the July '05 bunch I got from you originally! I was just holding them for you, I guess! image

    Congratulations Mike!

Some really well centered cards - a tough set - I think you've done well with this one!

I have the Mgr's Dream in a 7 - if you see mine - your's looks more like an 8.

I agree with your take on the '62Ts. My raw set is "well-enjoyed" from putting the set together as a kid -- nothing to match up to any of Mike's three sets I'm sure! Once I started upgrading the cards that had writing on them back in 2004, I discovered the world of PSA-graded cards. I couldn't believe how awesome the cards are in high grade, so I've been on a quest to complete my Master Set Registry ever since.

I'm going to definitely try to complete my first Heritage set next year!!
  • Beautiful cards, Mike !!

GREAT SCOTT! Awesome set, thanks for posting that. Some of those 7's should be 8's.

  • Like the wood borders, even if they stole the idea from the 1987 set

Like the Babe Ruth cards and really like those World Series photographs. The head on the League Leader and rookie cards are somewhat creepy

    Great set

That is a GORGEOUS set Mike!

    Nice job!
  • Beautiful cards- the 7s all look high level for the grade. Reminds me of how nice a solid Near Mint vintage card can look, and it demonstrates that you should buy the card and not the holder. Those 7s compare very favorably to many of the 8s I've seen. Congratulations!

ya know, i try and i try and i try to stay focused with my collecting habits and then people like you come along and show off a buncha nice stuff i had kinda shoved into the corner of my mind for later.....now, i find myself coveting certain cards from this set and it's all your fault.

    nice cards, btw. image

    very nice mike.

hard to tell from the numbers......do you buy raw and then sub yourself or do you buy both raw and graded?

any real disasters or gems to speak of? (ie. raw buys that were either appreciably better or worse than you thought you were getting?).
