OT - My Mother Passed Away

My mother passed away this morning. She was home, in the Philippines, and had been in ICU for several days. I have a passport but not the money so I can't fly over there for the funeral or like and that is really bothering me. We had a lot of good past and bad past, didn't talk for a decade or something like that, but she returned to the states like 5-6 years ago for a couple years and every thing was worked out. Things worked out really well in fact.
Like when I took everyone out to Red Lobster for her birthday, like 6-7 of us, and my family, I guess knowing I was doing well, went all out ordering and I think it the bill ran $350-400, but it was fun. She really enjoyed herself and talked about it for months.
When I was awarded a research award once i took the family out to a steak house...she got completely drunk. It only took her one drink anytime and she had 2-3.
She use to like helping me with mail. It would be like 9:20 in the morning and she would tape up another package and be like, "Hurry up." I would be like, "The post office just opened....we have another 6-7 hours....were good." "Alright....just hurry up." I was wondering the other day why I dont seem so fast anymore, and concluded it was likely age. Now I wonder if it was her.
(section removed)
When she returned home, all she did was talk about me, and what I had accomplished, to that side of the family and her friends. She had several females e-mail me or the like....but I am not really looking for a Russian bride, so to say. I was sure she was going to return.
Anyway, I apologize for getting a little too personal here, but there are several of you I consider a good friend. I will likely be somewhat quite the next week.
Clear Skies,
Mark

Thank you for sharing the peek into your past. It is what it is. I'm of the belief , that all things serve a purpose in our lives , including our past. You can't change your past , but you can change your future.
Spring will be here soon and hopefully all the good that was there , will overtake and pass the rest. The clouds may pass , then you might have some clear skies .---- Sonny
I am very sorry to hear of your mother's passing. Hang on to all those fond memories.
David
I'm very sorry to hear of the passing of your mother. My prayers and condolences go you, your mother and all of your family and friends.
My father passed away just over 21 years ago last month and I understand what you must be going through. When my father passed away I was just 20 years old and my mother was going to have my father buried local in the Los Angeles area, but she eventually gave in to my grandparents and had him buried back in Illinois.
I also couldn't afford to go to my dad's funeral and burial so we ended up having a very nice memorial service for my dad at our local church. To this day, I still haven't been able to make it to my father's burial site, but I eventually will make it there. My grandmother (my father's mother) is still alive and living in Arlington Heights, Ill. which isn't too far away. She's now 90 and doing ok for now. God willing, I will be able to visit my grandmother one last time and say bye to my father.
Hang in there Mark...Your mother is now looking down on you and totally understands your situation. Maybe you can do what I did and have a nice memorial for your mom in your town with some family and friends.
Please know you are not alone and have some good people here in this community.
Sincerely,
Brian
