Gerald Ford autographed 1986 Proof Gold Eagle?

A brother dealer has asked me about a 1986 Proof Gold Eagle that is autographed in some manner by former President Gerald R. Ford. Supposedly it is part of a limited edition of 500. I have never heard of it.
.
Is anybody familiar with this? Any ideas who put them out?
How about the autograph? Is it on the COA, or what?

    I have number 2XX of 500 - It came with a coa. It was an ebay buy at $560, prior to his departure, and I would love to know what it is worth.....

    He also did some of the bicentennial proofs in PCGS plastic.

    A nice coin, although the autograph on the insert has never really, to date, added too much value to the holder. I see many pieces offered under $2,000/coin today (and the 1 oz. proof gold eagle was worth more that much raw in a box 60 days ago).

    There was a special gathering in Palm Springs a few years back honoring the (3) arists on the 1976 bicentennial coins where President Ford attended (as he was President at that time). It was a nice day - my young son got to meet the President and I took a special picture of the two of them. This was around the time President Ford signed these coins.

    It could have been closer to 7-10 years ago easy now. Heck, that young son of mine is now 18 and heading off to college!!

    The three artists had their reunion during the spring and summer of 2001. That is now nearly 9 years ago.

    I have seen them fairly consistently on ebay and at auctions. They bring a small premium but not much. The signature program did not seem to establish a market. I would guess a fair price would be $1,600-1,700. I think plain proofs average 1300-1400 right now.

    PCGS does not even allow them in registery sets which seems to hurt the program.
