Deal gone bad... Ever have one?

I recently was offered a graded baseball card off-line. I asked for a scan and after receiving the scan, I said I was interested, but needed to know the asking price. A day later the seller sold the card to someone else. Is this not good business protocol or am I reading into this to much?

Sounds like there was no "deal;" just some talk about maybe
doing a "deal."
Unless there are previous promises/agreements, the first guy
with an offer and cash is the one who gets the "deal."

They won't do anything.
But, dropping their name is sometimes useful to scare inexperienced bad guys.
www.ic3.gov is a good aggregator of fraud complaints. When they
get enough complaints against an individual/entity, they forward
them to LEOs like the FBI.
The dollar-threshold at the FBI is super high. They don't look at low-dollar
fraud and they seldom act unless a local LEO has already made a LARGE
case on paper. The Feds are busy with other stuff.

I saw the site for internet fraud and dropped their name to the seller. They probably would not of done anything but it worked for me. Maybe I just got lucky but i though it was interesting to share.

Gee - I wonder which board member you're referring to....

<< <i>Thankfully, all of my losses on E-Bay have been covered by my credit card. I've really only had a handful of bad transactions on E-Bay out of 3000+....not too bad overall. The worst transactions I've had have been with the seller UKRedskins who sold me a bunch of bad autographs. I lost close to $1k because I paid with a cash balance instead of a cc.

Same here... I lost $600 on case of UD Hockey a few years back. I paid with my debit card. Now I use my credit card or paypal buyer credit on bigger items.
Then there was the recent sketchy ebayer who sold me two lots and then said they were lost. He refunded my money, but the cards were worth 30 times that.
Kiss me twice.....let's party.

I believe the seller took the bird in hand. It's frustrating, but his conduct was OK IMHO.

If someone is going to "poof" my comments then this comment should be removed as well. All he is trying to do is stir up trouble. Lets be fair here!!
