I believe the hobby has lost a dedicated collector...

Over the past several months, I've had to sell off the vast majority of my Ken Griffey Jr collection. When I retired my master set, it was at about 46%, which was 1,300 cards or so. A major purchaser has been ebay id bohlighome72ng. Joe Bohlig was a fierce collector of not only Jr, but of the Seattle Pilots. If you check out the Griffey master set, you can see the scope of his collection and his dedication to it. Joe not only outbid me on hundreds of Griffeys, but when it came time for me to sell because of financial needs, he helped me out by giving top dollar in personal transactions. I never met him face to face, however we had enough emails back-and-forth for me to know he was a cool guy.

Sometimes there are less than six-degrees of separation.
I was hoping for the best.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

Indeed.
very sad. RIP

Same here. He was always the picture of class in every transaction we ever conducted, and we conducted quite a few. If you could build a customer from scratch the final product would look very much like Joe. He was always a pleasure to work with, and I'm going to miss him.
<< <i>Very sad indeed. Its odd however that he actually survived the 1,500 foot fall! >>
That's the unnerving part for me. It's easy to say "he died doing what he loved", but I doubt he loved being trapped in the deep snow until exposure took him after surviving a free fall.

The Coast Guard and other rescue workers have "serious doubts" that
he survived the fall.
The good faith report that he "was alive and blowing a rescue whistle
after the fall" is extremely unlikely to be accurate. The wind is believed
to have been the source of "the whistling."
If he did survive the fall, it would be a historic happening.
The medical examiner will sort it out.
I used to work as a rock climbing instructor at a camp for kids and when we repelled off a cliff I was often at the top coaching the kids on taking that first backwards step over the edge. The look of panic in their eyes when they first realized they were not standing on solid ground anymore is haunting. I hope Joe's friend can block that look of terror from his memory.

<< <i>Very sad. I live in Washington and this story has been on the news quite a lot >>
The story was covered here on the Portland, OR, stations as well. It was a sad ending this time.
Our best goes out to the family, too...
