I run almost all of my auctions with $0.69 with no reserve. Ironically, I have an expensive item up right now from a consignor that's a coin (which is my primary business).

I don't waste people's time. I give them what they want, and people like to bid.

    My eBay ID is "gynandroidhead."

    Yours truly,

I deal in Modern player or set specific cards where at any given time only 3 people in the world might want my card and usually 1 or 2. Why take a risk that only one of those people is going to see it or be able to have baseball cards in their budget at that given time.

Id rather let a card sit in my store for $24.99 for a year then sell it at auction for $9.99.

Auctions need 2 people to be willing to pay max price. BIN needs only 1.
    Pretty Simple.

I used to use the BIN with a set price with little success then I would relist it with a very low minimum bid and end up getting more for the item than i would have expected.I never use BIN any more nor do i use a near valued price on it as starting auction price.Depending on the dealer i still will use BIN to purchase cards that are reasonably priced and can not be found in the regular auction selection.I will admit there is so much stuff that on BIN thats been listed for a real long time with no changes in price.

    << <i>No. I have found many a good deal with BIN's on ebay. >>

    So have I.

I see overpriced stuff but I see plenty of perfectly reasonably priced items. I've bought lots of stuff from Roger that fits under that very rubric and I'll likely buy more, from him and from some of the other people who sell it. I also see reasonably priced stuff that sits and sits for the sole reason that Roger mentions, namely that there are some people that only a few of us collect.

The idea that straight up auctions are always a bargain should be belied by the fact that anyone who has been on eBay buying graded cards for more that two weeks has had an experience with some out of control yahoo who bids over even your max I Must Be Nuts To Bid This bid.

I have chosen to quit collecting. The enjoyment of bidding on cards and collecting are long gone. Thanks to all of the ridiculous BIN's. In the last year, i have stopped buying and have sold most of my collection. Which i never thought i would do.

Average VCP price is also for the average card not the one that is high end for the grade.

    Boo makes a great point.

As Boo points out, there are many in this hobby that have a, "Buy high, sell low, but look good" business model. They usually don't last very long...
