Great Britain 1848/7 Penny-help with grade
I was pleased to find a decent example of this overdate this weekend at a local B&M.
Problem was they had it graded XF but after a little frank discussion they admitted that VF
was more likely and the price dropped from $75 to $22 which I was willing to pay.
It's a story of a better reverse vs obverse-what would you grade the coin at? Would
you have purchased it at all?
Overdate shows clearly under 5x, doubling shows up as well.
Large images so I'll use links.

Well, just Love coins, period.
Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
What is this the result of? I could find nothing in Krause or Coincraft concerning this sub-variety.
I'm surprised by the gVF grading-I thought the obverse (especially the hair) barely qualified for VF.

I think the gVF grading is rather optimistic and would be OK except for the hits and rim issues which are more than I would accept for this and so VF would be a defensible grade that would stand.
