Remember your 1st Submission to PCGS? Take a step back in your past and post it here!!

For me my first submission got me hooked back into a hobby that I enjoyed as a kid and a young teen in the late 1970'S. I see it's been almost exactly 7 years of madness with our great Host!! Here's my 1st set of grades from PCGS, all coins were purchased raw of eBay iirc. Share your 1st grades if you wish here......

    Told the story a dozen times ;

sent 7 or 8 of the best Franklins I had gotten over ten years in the 80's........

PCGS , in their first year of grading , blessed every single one as MS64 -

most ended up in PCGS 66 holders years later

Similar Franklin story when PCGS just started. Sent 20 frankies, one 64, thirteen 65, six 66. The 64 later went 66 as did several of the 65s.

Received a nice hoard of MS67 silver WQs back when PCGS almost never awarded the grade to that series.

Was this the story with just the Franklins back then or have others experienced this with a different series?

This coin represents my first PCGS submission experience. Purchased as a raw VF coin in Aug '91. It initially came back as a VF-30 in 1992. I resubmitted in 2002 where it resides in its current XF-45 holder.

I can't remember that far back.

20+ years ago, but among the first were some "S" mint Ike (go figure) They graded 66 but I never ever could find a mark at all. Made me wonder what a 67 looked like....Today those 66's are 68's

I submitted a large number of raw Capped Bust Half Dollars to PCGS about 15 years ago, my very first submission to any grading service. Results like this turned me off on PCGS, because back then, these were typical cases.

PCGS gave this coin an AU50. I call it an AU55.

This one PCGS gave VF35. It might make AU50, big difference in value.

Here is the real nail in the coffin. PCGS gave this R5- a VF20! It would be worth about $400 today. It has some problems, but it certainly should make AU50. An NGC55 today is worth around $4,000!

Now you can see why I cracked out a lot of PCGS coins many years ago, and submitted them to NGC or ANACS.

I sure hope I don't get thrown off this forum for stating fact.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.

That was a tough one to take. Bought it off the 'bay, paid approx MS61 money for it. Looked to be an EASY MS64. Put it away in a 2X2 until last year....10X loupe reveals hair manipulation. That was my first lesson learned as far as buying raw off the 'bay. However, in my own defense, images weren't quite as good as todays are (come to think of it, were they even required back then?).

    Great turnaround time though, huh?
    I'll come up with something.
