Anyone need a Topps Set from '73-'09? UPDATE, Sets Received, SCANS ADDED!!

Just bought this lot of 37 sets. I assigned each one a low ball value based on ebay sales assuming the 70's sets are in no better than EX condition although he responded saying they are all EX+ - NM. I figured all of the sets listed individually would bring around $1750 and that's low ball. If any of 70's stars and rookies are in EX/MT -NM then I might do really well. He also has a 7 day money back guarantee just in case they are all beaters.

'73 - '09 Topps Set Run

Just got the sets from UPS. I am extremely pleased with the set lot. I've gone through the '76 and '77 sets so far and if all of the '70's sets are in this good of condition then I'm gonna do really well. The '76 set is NM-NM/MT, absolutely beautiful cards. The '77 set is not in quite as good a shape but still EX/MT-NM. I bought the lot based on all of the sets being EX. I'm pulling all of the star cards and putting in CS1's because I'll want to scan them anyway. I'll update again with a lot of scans this afternoon after I go through all of the sets.

  • Looks like a decent deal, let me know what the 73, 74, 75 sets look like when you get them.

you should make the UPS driver wait at the door while you inspect them, so you can tape it back up and ship it all back. imageimage

good luck, i hope you find the untapped NM Schmitty Rookie.

Wow, that's a cool pickup. My fantasy is to own all of those and put them in binders some day. I'm not in the market right now, but good luck!

That's cool. Wish I had the extra money for a buy like that. Hope the cards are in good shape.

I haven't decided exactly what I want to do with it yet, but the price I paid was based on selling for profit. I hope they are in the condition he described them in. His feedback is great. I offered him $1500 shipped to take it off ebay and he declined, so I saved $20, lol. I still don't understand why anyone would have an item like this end on a Thursday morning at 9 something. image

  • Nick pickup, I had this on my watch list. I had it very conservatively valued at about $1,500+ resale, but I think if those 73-75 sets are even close to what the seller proclaims, you probably have a nice profit margin on your hands.

Like others have said, I would love to see some scans when they arrive. Best of luck on condition.

Congratulations on the pickup - I hope you do well.

These are absolutely amazing. I'm assuming that he didn't know the grading definition when he described the 70's sets as being in excellent shape. I've gone through all of the early sets and they break down like this : '73 EXMT-NM (Schmidt solid probably 7 maybe 7.5), '74 NM+ (Winfield might be a 9), '75 NM+ (Brett might be an 8), '76 NM-NM/MT (beautiful cards), '77 EX/MT-NM, '78 NM+ (Murray 7-8, Molitor 7-8), '79 NM+, '80 NM+

I will post a ton of scans shortly.

How's that 88 Todd Benzinger RC look?
  • EAsportsEAsports Posts: 1,566 ✭✭✭
One of those factory sets from the mid '90s ('95 or '97, IIRC) is worth a pretty decent dollar.

Of course, you'll have to pay someone to take the '89 set, so it all works out.

The Brett rookie looks like a blazer!
  • Quite a bit of OC cards... the majority of the 73-76 cards look like 6s(maybe a few 7s) but that 75 Brett looks nice.
  • I'd be interested in a price on the 1979 set. New to the boards after about two years of lurking, I hope I'm responding properly, I've seen how some people can be when you make a mistake.

about 17 of the 48 star cards I scanned could be considered OC, but the majority are 2-3 grades better than I anticipated and have great corners. It's not that these cards are Mint or anything, it's just the fact that they are so much better than I anticipated and paid for. The Schmidt, Winfield, and Brett Rookies are really nice.

Although there are a lot of O/Cs, based upon what you THOUGHT they were going to look like and what you paid for them, I think you hit a HOME RUN! Good luck with the sales and enjoy the ones that you decide to keep!!!!!

A couple more scans. All of the early and mid 80's sets appear to be solid NM/MT - MINT or better.

More scans of the '75 Set. This set may be the most impressive. It is one of the best raw '75 sets I've personally seen. Strong, conservative NM+ with a ton of 8's and 9's.

PSA is very tuff on the 75's I've sent in what I thought were dead on 9's and have gotten 8's and 7's.

    Again, nice pickups!

yeah, I know they are tough on the '75's that's why I'm so impressed with the condition of these '75's. I haven't assigned a specific grade that I think any of them would get other than the Brett. I do think that overall the set is NM+ with a lot of 8's and 9's including stars. The edges and corners look pack fresh. The seller told me that he and his father hand collated these sets as he was growing up so I assume they've been sitting somewhere just like they put them together over the years. I still don't understand why anyone would end a listing on Thursday morning at 9:15 and have only 1 picture of all the set boxes. Zero scans and pictures of the individual cards. That just amazes me.

At $37 per set, you have maybe made the deal of the year. Already!

That's some great looking stuff there...congrats!
