Pretty California Pan Pacific Expo Medal

I just bought this at the San Jose show - it's not expensive or necessarily rare, but along with the Indian portrait, I thought it was quite attractive and eye appealing. What are your thoughts? Anyone have any background info on this particular medal? Feel free to post any Pac Pacific medals and tokens you may have!

Nice medal. PPIE generated hundreds of medal designs and imitation gold slugs.

My great great grandmother went to the Expo then, and bought several medals, one of which imitates the $50 slug. I just wished she had splurged and bought the $50 instead. But now I have all of her stuff from then, even her coin purse, a pocket watch that was burned in the fire after the 1906 earthquake etc. in a safe deposit box. Several years ago I imaged a selection of her photographs from ca. 1899-1918 from the Southern Pacific, and her photos of President McKinley when he visited SF in 1901. I would like to look at the rest of the stuff sometime, but being in the bank and some things like watches are very valuable, I don't look too often anymore.

SaorAlba, Oh, that's wonderful that you have all her things from that period. What history! If you can, please post photos of some of those items - they would be fascinating to see! Thanks for sharing that.

Secondly, yes, your coin is beautiful. I love coming on these coin forums for advice but also validation from other smarter members that know more than I do. I like to hear that I did well with my purchase(Who doesn't!)

Your coin is great and I'm sure you know what you're looking for especially by being in the industry for this long.

I love anything with an American Indian on it.. So yeah, this coin gets to A+++s from me!

Thanks Jay, I'm glad you like this medal too. And I'm a little surprised you didn't recognize Todd's great work on this medal!

I certainly have no claim to fame in the coin photography area, though I see your skills are improving greatly!

I have something similar, cannot remember the date but it is early 1900's, the reverse says " Souvineer of Detroit "...I'll try and locate it and get pics. Nice Charmy, and yes, I id recognise Todds pics :-)
