Registered Priority Mail

Sending First Class Registered Mail from the east coast to the west coast takes about 10 calandar days. What is typical for Priority registered mail. I just sold some items on the bay and wondering when the buyer should expect them?

2-3 days for Priority Mail in most cases.

I've waited more than two weeks for registered mail to travel across country. But I agree, 10 days is a good average.

If its registered mail whether priority or first class, it the same amount of time. It usually goes by weight of the box. Heavier weights have to go priority I believe. If you are talking Priority without registered than it is 2-3 days. You can not speed up the delivery of a Registered Package.

speaking froim experience:

Registered Priority => same amount of time as register first class.

(registered is registered. I think the rest is just pricing structure.)

Go the cheapest route that they will allow. The clerk will tell you if you are forced to go priority (by wieght, possible a size criteria also). They all go the same speed.

The only advantage of using Priority packaging for a Registered article is in the case where the weight of the items will make it cheaper to ship in a Flat Rate box. Postage is a separate rate from Registry service, but every article weighing 13 ounces or more will be assessed postage on the Priority Rate per zone unless using a Flat Rate box. The U.S.P.S. won't allow mailers to use the Flat Rate envelope for Registered service simply because the glossy coating on that item won't absorb the ink from the plugger that is used to postmark a Registered article. I use the small Flat Rate box frequently for Registered service, and it saves a tremendous amount in postage. The amount of time that a Registered article is in the mail circuit will be invariably longer than a 1st class article, regardless of using a Priority package.

That may be a good average but it can take more and it can take less.

Registered mail takes the same time whether it is first class or priority...but that time varies. I received two registered packages from Texas to CA in 3 days so I tried one to Phoenix since it was too big for express flat rate envelope and that one took a week. I've seen other times when it takes 3 weeks from LA to San Diego....

First Class and Priority are the same thing. The only difference is that above 13oz. you can only use "Priority," and below 13oz. "Priority" costs more. I never use Priority unless weight dictates doing so. When it comes to Registered, there's definitely no difference, whether First Class or Express, because of how the package is handled point to point.

As coindeuce pointed out you can take advantage of Priority Flat Rate for registered shipments. Many sellers are not aware of this. You have to use the Priority flat rate box and it has to be taped with brown paper tape on all seams just like any other registered shipment. It can save you a bundle on a heavy, high value shipment. Registered mail tends to be cheaper on insured items $700 and above. You can also save money on registered shipments by purchasing electronic return receipt at the counter instead of the signature confirmation. Same thing, only cheaper and no form to fill out. PDF of receiver's signature will be available on-line in event of a claim and Paypal does accept this as proof of delivery.

Express mail (overnight) Flat rate cardboard envelope is only a few bucks more than registered. Gets there much quicker but is limited to $5,000 insurance and merchandise has to be able to fit in the cardboard express flat rate envelope. Would be nice if they would come up with an Express Flat Rate box!

I just sent a Priority Registered from NC to CA. Mailed Jan 19 and delivered Jan 26. I was beginning to worry
