One of my most highly anticipated sub results ever. Lots of resubs coming.

EXCELLENT 5 1958 TOPPS 47 ROGER MARIS What I ecpected but was hoping for a 6
N1: EVIDENCE OF TRIMMING 1960 TOPPS 564 WILLIE MAYS ALL STAR WHATEVER!! This card is an 8 at worst and in no way trimmed

8 1 16308562 MINT 9 1984 TOPPS 123 DAN MARINO Dead centered and razor sharp, resubbing
9 1 16308563 MINT 9 1984 TOPPS 280 ERIC DICKERSON No way these aren't 10's. Dead centered and perfect corners. Difference between 9 and 10 is about $300
10 1 16308564 MINT 9 1984 TOPPS 280 ERIC DICKERSON Ditto
11 1 16308565 NEAR MINT-MINT 8 1965 TOPPS 514 JOE AZCUE SGC 96 crackout and 50/50 centering. No PSA 10's

Those 84's looked super sharp when you ripped em'. Don't let the pliers slip.

Sad part is that I am most upset about the cheapest cards on the sub if you go by BV. Those Dickerson are both razor sharp.

Funny you mention this. I recently picked up slabbed '81 TCMA (BGS) and WTF (PSA) cards of Cal to hopefully get signed this year. Tonight was the night they came out of the slabs. Those BGS slabs are a beast!

Those slabs are a beast. I wear goggles when I crack them...those plastic bits are sharp and nasty if they hit you in the eyes.

When I initually cut the corner I realized it was going to be a mess. Although I limited the mess for the rest of the project there is a piece of sharp plastic waiting to go in my foot tonight.

Don't slip witht he screwdriver like I did on my 64 Willie Mays. Now I get to look at willie with a big ole scratch across his chest. i think that hurt me more than it did him.

Serious question - do you have a loupe? The reason I ask is I know a few people that send in quite frequently, and I can't talk them into getting a loupe. Believe me, if you don't have one, it is well worth having one. There is no way to tell the difference between a 9 and 10, and sometimes a sharp 8 and 10.

If you have one, then just totally ignore this post.

Oddly enough, sometimes I can see flaws in the edges and centering better if I scan the card and look at it on the screen. Especially the centering. I have a 4x magnifying lamp too.

The scan is only as good as the scanner used. That being said, since I work for HP, what scanner & software do you use to get the best resolution to actually count pixels? (Sorry if stupid question for software guys, I sell storage and companies buy TBs of our stuff!)

BTW, I have a HP OfficeJet (go figure).

Sorry about that. It sucks, but it's consistent with what I've been hearing from dealers lately. Have heard tales of dealers calling PSA and saying their hypertechnical grading has made it impossible for them to grade and sell cards anymore.

That may be an exaggeration, but my 3 most recent subs have been so inconsistent (some spot on, some shockingly bad) lends some credence to that.

I know those Dickersons are tough because they are usually touched up with different color print spots that really contrast. I submitted about 5 to Beckett about a year ago and only got 1 9. Tough card.

BTW, I've got 3 PSA 9 1987 Donruss cards that I was thinking about listing and wouldn't mind avoiding the eBay fees, so if interested, let me know.

back in the day I cracked a minty fresh perfectly centered CSA 9 55 topps dusty rhoades and nailed the edge with a screwdriver, it STILL came back a 7..if that says anything (gulp)

it definitely wasn't for centering. That's about as spot on as I've ever seen that card.

It doesn't matter which card it is. That one is still off centered. Another $6 might get a 10 tho . . .

I look at it this way... it's a crap shoot. The less 10's on the big star cards the more they will get submitted. The more 10's the lower the value. PSA is number one for a reason...their cards command the must dollars.

I do Not think we should have to resub cards to get the correct grade. For the prices we pay and length of time it takes to cards back... get it Right the first time. Also did you ever think that graders don't want to give out 10's, the more 10's from a grader might hurt his rep as a grader????

PSA is the tuffest but I bet they also make the most money$$$$$

Front looks phenonemal. But I often forget to look at the back and realize that's what got me a lower grade than I expected. Most 81 Montanas have terrible reverse centering. Don't remember if there is an issue with Marino or the 84 set.
