Good Gamble? UPDATE, Cards Received

Just won this lot purely on a gamble. Cards in box all look to have good edges and corners, probably NM or better. Seller doesn't sell any cards at all so she may be telling the truth about not going through the lot, etc....

Worst case scenario, I spent $41+shipping on some good condition mid 70's football commons. Best case, the lot hasn't been picked through and has a lot of good condition stars. Payton rookie? Nah, couldn't be that lucky.

Football lot

Cards were at my office when I came in this morning. Very Satisfied. 200+ '75's and 300+ 76's, average NM/MT with several gradeable cards. Haven't combed the lot thoroughly yet to get the possible 10's, if any, but there are several 9's. Does anyone know the tough commons in these two sets?

Sadly no Payton Rookie, but several stars in great condition.

I am sure that if it turns out to be commons you will steal a scan of two nice Payton rookies and say they came from that and we will never hear the end of it.

around 8 cents each - you can't go too wrong there. Sorry to say I wouldn't expect any stars in that lot...but even just for commons that's a decent deal.

If it was in Sacramento I would think it was some 70's football commons I gave to Goodwill last year. My local Goodwill has benefited from my generosity many times!

Here is an email I just got from the seller. She might have knowledge of what is in the lots, but I'll take my chances....

Thank you Tommy for your very quick response and payment. I have received the payment notification and I will be sending the football cards to you today. Thank you again for your bid and a great transaction.

lmao, if you guys are talking about the Corvette, The title is sqeaky clean with no mention of water damage. Let me repeat, THE TITLE IS CLEAR WITH NO SALVAGE OR WATER DAMAGE. The claim filed could be anything, like he left the top off and had to get the carpet replaced. I didn't even know about the title claim until I listed it on ebay.

When a claim is filed on the insurance, the insurance company notifies the DOT which files a report on the title. I'm assuming that they filed it as a water damage claim and then the owner went to the title/tag office and explained the situation and they fixed the title which is clean now and has been since 1997.

You should probably have a little knowledge of something before you try to make someone look bad with comments like that, clownshoes.

I don't know what you're talking about. I was just stating that I hope that the previous owner took meticulous care of those cards and there isn't any water damage to them that went unmentioned in the description.

lmao. As I stated previously, and as I noted that you have no idea what you are talking about, the TITLE IS CLEAR. The autocheck is right there noting all of the title changes over the years. If someone has any concerns or questions then I have given a number that they can call and ask.

I sell over a million dollars worth of autos each year and have never had a dissatisfied customer. My ebay feedback is also 100% including all high dollar vintage sets that include a lot of high dollar raw cards. I only wish that other people doing business had the integrity that I do.

But you wouldn't know anything about any of that, you just chose to try and demean me for some reason or other even though I've never said a damn cross word to you. The again, that may just be the type of person you are.

Also, I seem to remember sending you a '81 cello pack with Gantner on the front for the cost of shipping one time. I guess my integrity was lacking there too.

I'll say sweet things to you and about you for 81 cellos with Dale Murphy on top.

Heck, I will even let you kiss my wife.

Two kisses if that cards grades out at a ten.

BTW, my wife never reads this board and that makes me happy and a little relieved!

wetvett1340: "I'll do $6 delivered on the Gantner pack if you want."

gumbyfan: "Sold! I will send you the money right now."

If you paid $6 to ship the single cello pack, that's your problem. I seem to remember otherwise, though. It came first class.

Thanks again for that pack. Thankfully it didn't smell like mildew. image

edited to add: I'm guessing your revisionist history flows over to the "over a million dollars worth of autos" you sell each year with nary a single dissatisfied customer. No need to provide your bank records. I believe you. image

no need Bill, I'm done. I started a thread about a lot of football cards I bought and wanted people's opinion and had someone attack me over a Corvette I have on ebay. Keep in mind that person has no clue about titles nor the history of this vehicle, but chose to attack me anyway even though I've never wronged him nor anyone on this board, ebay, or my business.

What kind of Murphy's are you looking for?
  • Those 70's cards look like a good deal especially for a starter set. If you have some stars in there it is an added bonus though probably unlikely. Grading commons other than PSA9/10 candidates will be a losing proposition.

Why would you make mention of this when you actually charged him $6 for the pack? It doesn't really support your integrity claim at all.

lol, what does this have to do with anything? I have paid for like 7-8 once month memberships to VCP, usually when I'm building a vintage set. The other part of the time I don't use it enough. Go back and dig up some of the threads where I've helped people with VCP.

I didn't know the exact amount of the cello pack. But it wasn't for much more than shipping. I'm sure it cost ~$4-$5 to ship it w/delivery conf. and then you have the some odd cents for paypal fees since it was before the personal payment. Either way, I could not care less what you or Gumby think of my integrity as I've built a succesful business with the utmost integrity and have made a couple hundred transactions on this board with such.
