Cracking a SEGS holder.

I only want to know the easiest way to open a SEGS holder. Please do not give me any comments regarding SEGS' service, I am not asking for this. Just how to open their holders.

    Simple! Whack the SOB with a hammer and it'll open up as easy as pie ! ( just like in my old tin knocker days )

    Where is that 1813 scratched? On the other side? That coin is honey, and it's shame it can't be graded.
    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

    It may seem a little chotsky, but I always crack slabs with my hands inside a tshirt. Any flying projectiles should get caught up in the shirt.

    I usually wrap the slab in an old washcloth.

    I usually put 'em in a vice grip then start tapping, open fairly easy. Glad you got it.

    Have bought and sold on BST, many references available when asked.

    Wrap it in a cloth. Put in a vise. Slowly squeeze and listen for the cracking.

    I'm kinda surprised the hammer-tapping thing worked, the lone time I cracked a SEGS holder I got so frustrated I was ready to run down to the local FD and ask to borrow their Hurst tool. The SEGS slab above all others was nearly impenetrable.

    SEGS slabs appear to use a softer and less brittle type of plastic which may explain their toughness and impact resistance.

    Be sure to wrap it in cloth first to prevent flying plastic shards. Also, wear eye protection.

    put it in a vise. so you are on the sides . a few turns you will hear a pop. then turn it end to end. just a few turns will do it ..then it will open up easy ...
