These cards are at a local auction...can someone tell me if this is worth going to??

    If you were paying $10 to $15 for the lot, maybe.

    There's a 1986 Fleer box there that's yellow, never saw that before? Curious about it. Is it a cello box?

    Looks like a fun junk wax rip to me...86 Fleer Baseball, Proline FB box that if unopened has an auto or two in it..I think those have an auto per box that year...and who knows what the rack boxes are. could be 86..but maybe 85...or maybe 90?

    The Topps Rack Pack boxes could always be pre-86

    Those boxes will likely sell for far more than what they're worth. Someone will think they're getting a 'deal' and bid up this lot of '23 year old baseball cards' to $275.

    Depends on how they're auctioning it?

    The whole lot? Individual?

    I wonder what year the boxes are - top left and right - they're rack boxes but can't tell what year?

    Doesn't hurt to go check?

    Not sure how the bidding will go - I have found that many auctions have nothing but crap and as was said - potentially - people who know nothing overbid.

    I remember one auction I went to (not this one) I was the only bidder...got all kinds of sets for $5 each...one of the was 1984 donruss sealed, which I sold on Ebay for around $150.........made all my money back and then some....everything else was gravy.....

    The very few live auctions that I've been to, the cards (if any) are always WAY over-bid on. I once saw someone pay $40 for an 800-count box of 1991 Upper Deck Baseball commons...

    I guess it depends on who is there........most of the time cards go high...I did get lucky that one time though......I guess no card collectors showed up that day....usually there is junk wax....the same auction house I got the 1984 Donruss from also had some vintage Willie Mays...they were all raw.....it put my grading skills to the test....I got burned on the 1954 Bowman, but the 1956 Topps I bought came back a '6' and I did good on it.....

    Topps rack boxes look the same for a lengthy period, so you'd need to see the packs inside.
    '92 Pro Line football has at least 1 auto per box, so that's not a junk box.

    I believe the racks in the front left of the pic are 1990 Donruss.

    Unless your an alchemist and can change the 86 Fleer Baseball into Basketball it isn't worth the effort.

    My auction experiences is that people over bid because they don't have any clue to "recent' values of that kind of material.

    I go to several auctions in this area that the people have absolutely no clue about the cards but they all want to look at them. None of the people there have any real money and the boxes and lots usually sell for $5-$10. The problem is that it has all been junk. I started a thread last Friday night about all the stuff I bought there. I spent $19 I think and I should make a couple hundred if Im lucky. If someone did bring a nice vintage collection there I'm sure I could buy it for a couple hundred at most.

    I keep going to these auctions because I keep waiting for someone to have a collection worth $50,000 that they have no clue about and will absolutely rip my arm off when I roll off 10-12 crisp c-note's.

    I went to an estate auction once that had (2) 3500 count boxes of cards from 1974-80 Topps. Opening bid of $5. I opened with a bid of $150 thinking everyone would just go away. Sold for a little over $2000. Guy thought it was a heck of a deal at a little under $1/card. No idea exactly what was in there but cards were EX at best.

    I have thought of faking my death about once a month and have the same company auction off my cards.

    collecting RAW Topps baseball cards 1952 Highs to 1972. looking for collector grade (somewhere between psa 4-7 condition). let me know what you have, I'll take it, I want to finish sets, I must have something you can use for trade.

    looking for Topps 71-72 hi's-62-53-54-55-59, I have these sets started

    your right i went to a small local auction, usually just go to people watch and look at old stuff, but this time they had a 800 ct box of baseball cards, not in good shape and a lot of 90-91 score, i figured teh box would go for a buck, like a lot of the lots there that night. over 10 and i didn't even get to bid on it. now i couldn't come on here and get someone to give 10 to ship them the cards and add 500 cards.

    7,000 cards for $2,000 =a little under a $1/card?

    I have seen the same thing as you all describe, a showcase of offgrade 60's-70's cards from a 1990's weekend warrior dealer bringing $500 when the biggest stars are Spahn and Bench.
