I'll admit I 'dont get it' when it comes to multiple people who will pay hundreds of dollars for the empty mint packaging for this coin. You can buy the empty 4 coin set boxes all day long for under $50, but if you want the single $50 unc. box...its over $600. Maybe I'm just jealous I don't have a few to sell!
Linky for EBAY auction of 2008-W $50 Unc. Buffalo EMPTY BOX!
I thought it might be a 'shill bid' scam but when I looked at past results I saw 2 other completed auctions with these empty boxes going for 'moon money'.
An earlier EBAY auction for empty box for $50 Unc. 2008-W Buffalo selling for $575.

Wow. That's an eye opener. Hadn't even thought of that. Great scam.
As an extra general observation on the purpose and usefullness of this forum in general. This is a perfect example of the value added of having dealers participate in this forum. I consider myself a 'dedicated amatuer' when it comes to coin collecting...but I would have never figured that out myself or had access to sources who would have alerted me to that potential danger in buying a raw $50 unc. Buffalo in original mint packaging. Despite the occassional rush to bash dealers for some real or imagined transgression, the educational value of this place would be greatly dimished without the selfless participation of several dealers who chose to participate here. Thanks Frank.

I found the link what a joke, hyping up gold through the whole video. Graphs and charts illustrating
the upward movement of gold, accept what there offering is .0000001 oz. of gold.
Strict limit of 5 per customer, yeak ok. Sadly there are some thinking they just bought an oz. of gold for $19.95.
This video is hilarious,

Sells them on ebay under an Alt ID!
Too bad........
<< <i>The Unc boxes are being resold with an added fake coin from China for $1000 to $1200. Fake proofs to fill the 4 coin sets are not yet available. >>
Perhaps, but I doubt that any such scammer would actually pay $600 (or even $200) for a box.
I still got a quarter ounce box and a 1/10 oz box. Retirement, here I come! I'm sure these boxes will fizzle and be worth nothing though because I still own them.
