2008 W Gold Buffalos

Do you believe the fractional 2008 W buffs will continue to increase in value over the next five years.

Nope, I'll take them off your hands since nobody else probably wants them.

    Welcome!image

I have some of these, and I'm glad to have them - but I really don't know how much longer they can go on a tear. At some point, they will back off as all popular new issues do. In five more years, the true value will be much more apparent. I would venture to say that in five years, these coins will be higher than they are now, but not double from their current levels.

Added: my comments are based on relatively tame inflation and a stable price for gold. If inflation isn't managed and gold increases like it has been for the past 5 years, then the gold Buff Fractionals will continue to outpace even the rise in gold bullion.

    How's that for doubletalk?image

If they don't recommence minting of the fractional buffs I will say that these will turn out to be the biggest modern winners of our generation. I'm not really 'talking my book'. I didn't buy any at issue prices. Recognized my SERIOUS error in Feb/March of 2009 and have been doing all I can to buy any and all that are offered for reasonable prices. I think they will all keep going up but I do think it is inevitable that the $50 Unc version will overtake the $50 Proof version due to the large disparity in mintages. I realize there are many more proof collectors but IMO, within 2 years the 1 oz. uncs. will sell for more than the 1 oz proofs.

The one thing that the 1 oz gold buff proof has going for it is that it's in a continuing series. And the market seems to have proclaimed it a very strong king so that has driven the price up. Unless we see future mintages threaten to unseat it, I don't see much of a downside risk.

I have all that, too--at least the 6-year-old. Now, if I can only get ahold of that many buffs!

My guess is that the 08-W Buffalo will never go down in price.

    I was begging for a "You Suck" when I bought a 2008-W $50 Buffalo PCGS PF70DC for $1250, a few months ago.

I bet I could get a "You Suck" now.

It is truly a spectacular coin, I don't know of anything the US mint has ever done that I like better.

Although the IHC struck on a $2.5 gold planchet is pretty cool.

What has surprised me is how the 1/2-ounce unc buff has held up. Unless I'm mistaken that's easily the highest mintage (because of the double prosperity set) and yet demand seems almost as strong as the other denominations. Thoughts?

    BUT.........

HOW CLOSELY IS THIS PRICE TIED TO GOLD?

if gold drops to 600 an oz will the intrinsic value outweight the PM value and they hold their price?

Dunno, but my guess is that these are not tied very closely with PM prices. See what others think...
