    I don't know that many coins in "good" appeal to me, but generally I would agree with that statement.

    I agree. Many are caught up with the 'high grade fever'... and it is easy to be seduced into this, especially since people here on this forum are mostly high grade obsessed. No doubt, the high grades command greater prices and are most saleable. However, for COLLECTORS, other grades will suffice. No doubt most of us would like to have all MS/PR 70's. This is an impossible situation since many coin series do not even have such quality coins. Collect what you like .... and enjoy them. Cheers, RickO

    Disagree. A nice coin can still be an overgraded coin. Originality and eye appeal are what defines a nice coin. What someone has graded it as is irrelevant to the actual quality of the coin.

    Yeah, "correctly graded" has little to do with the coin being a nice coin.

    If my definition of "nice" can be applied to any coin I consider to be nice, no matter what anyone else says or thinks, then yes, I can consider any coin to be "nice" if it displays original surfaces and honest wear.
    Always looking for attractive rim toned Morgan and Peace dollars in PCGS or (older) ANA/ANACS holders!

    Hi,

    the reverse can be true often enough. I had a Pr66 1941 no "AW" 50c in hand a month and a half ago. Not a mark on this coin anywhere, totally original from what I know, extremely all there. But, it was the most hideous vomit green from what I believe was storage in true cello. Mind you I like nearly al toning esp something like this, but any color other than this sort of powdery green and..unsavory..yellow. Dead mirrors but for some spots round the edges where there was concentric tone of an orange sort. This is what I wanted (minus the vomit color). I returned it. I actually found myself thinking ..."hmm.. dip.." but I'd never.

    I was thinking the same thing. When excessive wear degrades the original design to such a degree that the first thing I notice is the LACK of detail, I'm not interested. However, coins grading VF indeed show very good eye appeal much of the time.

    Agree in spades! I actually prefer nice original F-XF coins. I like my coins to have done a little 'work' in commerce before coming to me for a luxurious life in retirement!

    And I'm saying it doesn't need to be correctly graded.

    A beautiful VF Bust Half doesn't become less beautiful if it is in an XF holder. It just makes it harder or more expensive to buy.
