1868 2cent piece HELP

Looking at buying a NGC graded 1868 2cent piece MS63 BN. Looks like im getting it for $160.

Any opinions on it. Are these pretty easy to find in this grade?

Seems like a pretty good deal, as these are difficult to find problem free. (Corrosion, cleaning, etc.)

If the color in the images is accurate (and that can be a big IF), portions of the surfaces look a bit too light in color for me to think it's original.

the guy has sold a few rarer coins and have all positive feedback 344. so im not to awful worried about him replacing it. are NGC containers easy to crack open and replace?

The color, as shown, still looks off (too light) to me, especially on a large portion of the obverse.

Yes. Unlike PCGS, NGC holders can be cracked open, the coin replaced, and glued back together. There will be evidence, but if it is done well it can be difficult to detect. In hand, the case will squeak at bit when squeazed. Place a thumb and index finger on the face sides, not the edges. Squeeze hard. An NGC holder should not squeak. A re-sealed holder will.

I think that the NGC holders which were introduced a few years ago are tamper evident. And I don't have any reason to believe that the coin in this thread has been switched. I do however, wonder if it might have been lightly cleaned.

I offer no opinion on the coin in question. I believe that the generation of holder that it resides in is one that every collector should be careful of when purchasing, especially coins that appear cleaned. It was very easy to crack and re-seal older NGC holders, and many have been sold on ebay. I have broken the bad news to a few collectors who have come to my table at shows, and showed me their ebay purchases in re-sealed NGC holders. Just something to keep in mind when buying older NGC coins online.
