After 20 years, 6 months, and 26 days in the Air Force... with 7 or 8 deployments and almost 5 years overseas in the Middle East or very close by, as of 1 Jan 2010, I'm now retired. For the first time in a long time, I do not have a job.

I've now moved in to my favorite coin dealers business trying to learn the other side of the showcase. I volunteer there to learn.

At this point, my life is good... and I am happy. I have absolutely no stress in my life, for the first time ever... probably.

I've learned alot about the coin dealer side of the business. Those of you who think a B&M makes huge money on a daily basis are wrong. The key I was unaware of is... it's all about movement. (If you want to know what the best price I can get on gold... pm me.)

I've been impressed on the forum members I've met walking in the store... you folks know who you are.

So contact me if I can help you find something you're looking for... and post a cool coin to tempt me to move out of the Jefferson Nickels I've been hoarding for the last 10 years... but realize, I no longer have the cash to play with on a daily basis I once used to purchase the hoard I currently own. I wonder what series I'll end up playing with in the next few years...

I'm sure the BST will soon have a list of stuff for sale from the coins I find in the shadows of the store.

    When I retired from the USAF (18Jan79-31Jan99), I remember that weird feeling when I realized it was the first time in my entire life, I could live wherever I wanted. Up until then, it was someone else's decision.

    Enjoy that retirement check that does arrive on time each and every month guaranteed. I did 22 years, 2months and 16 days initially in the Marines and eventually retired from the Army in 1994. The VA wishes I would pass on, if you know what I mean. So, stay in shape, keep healthy and piss them off like I have for so many years. Oh, and congrats brother. You deserve to rest now.     Congrates that it is over. Stay fit and keep interested in something. After the full life retirment can become boring so develope some new interests also.

    I'll ditto the comments above. Also, I'm looking forward to walking in that B&M place you volunteer at and meet you and that other dude that works there! Oh yes, try not to stray too far from the Jefferson series, as it's the best! If you do, maybe try those Buffalos?

    Glad to see another retired military person on the boards. I retired from the Army in '98. I wanted to offer an idea..... I went into teaching after I left the Army. I teach high school now.

    Keep working on your sets; you'll enjoy it, especially hanging out with dealers.

    Major props & thanks to you Steve, for your service. You stayed 4 1/2 months longer than I, with a fed position waiting for me once I started my terminal leave... same office, same desk. There wasn't much time to relax and enjoy my retirement when I made that move. In many ways, wish I had taken advantage of an opportunity like you to volunteer at a local B&M. The AF was a good ride for me, and I hope it was for you also... just think, no more empty space dilemmas on those darn EPRs!

    In the meantime, here's something to entice a move into "things more classic".

    Have a brother who served 20+ years in the AF but then he got hit by a moving van while jogging. He survived that but soon afterwards, the AF had no use for him. He had all that training, even went all the way to the Pentagon. A few years passed before he found something with the Marines. Now he places orders for ships and tanks and yes, he enjoys his work. Then there was my dad who was an engineer all his life. Personally, they wouldn't let me enroll into the military because I was handicapped, as they would say, with my loss of hearing. It bugs me to this day. But my point is, once we become something, we usually end up staying that way until the day we die. So once you're a nickelman, always a nickelman! image
