He sells 100 cards for $7.99 - which is about 6 or 7 packs (that have 15 cards per pack).
That means, in a 1988 Topps wax box that has 540 cards, he gets over $40 for that wax box.
To better illustrate, if each order gets a mixture of one pack of 1988 Topps, 1988 Fleer, 1988 Donruss, 1988 Score, 1989 Topps, 1990 Topps, 1990 Donruss, after 36 orders he has gotten over $40 for each of those wax boxes.
Seems to be working for him if he has filled 2,945 orders.

True, but you're probably looking at $3 to ship, plus Ebay and paypal fees... So figure $4.50 in white meat for 10 packs, which is about $.45 a pack. Not bad, considering the other alternatives with this stuff, but when you consider the kinds of people you're dealing with (i.e., Ebay newbies) I think it might be more trouble than it's worth.
Edit to add: I thought it was 10 packs, not '100 cards', which renders all of the above completely irrelevant. Score one for the Lions fan!
<< <i>As already pointed out, multiply fees and shipping costs by six and the profit isn't close to $40 per box
This sales pitch is as old as ebay. I look at it as similar to the gas station selling groceries for three-times what you can find somewhere else >>
He lists for $7.99 each, and after fees makes $6.15 per 6 pack lot. If it costs him $2.15 to ship those few packs, he clears $4.00 per 6 pack lot. Multiply that by 6 lots = $24 per wax box.
Trust me, he aint getting $24 per wax box anywhere else for the junk he's peddling.
This seller, or one like them, got me ONCE. I bid on a LOT of stuff and just wanted to open some cheap packs. I didn't read it well and I thought it was 100 packs. It was my mistake, so no harm done. It's really a smart way to make money on junk.

<< <i>I did the same thing on the BST forum here but mine had really good stuff mixed in with the junk wax. >>
Damn skippy it did.
When are you doing that again?
Only an idiot would have a message board signature.

I have done dirty things to my pack collection.

That's unfortunate.
Only an idiot would have a message board signature.
"and which one might that be in the packs you are offering?"

I'm sure Nick knows all about the various fees associated with selling on ebay and accepting payment via PP.
