There's a card that ends on the 'Bay tomorrow that I just don't care how much it costs me... I GOTTA
I'm 1 card short of completing a set... and it ends tomorrow on the 'Bay. It's a card that I haven't seen come up yet in 2009.... and I don't care what it goes for, I WILL WIN IT!
Honestly, it's a card that probably worth about $10, maybe a tad more/less. It's a PSA 8 common... and will gladly share it's identity with everyone once I win it.
This card will complete a 13-month project I've been working on...
Anyone every been in my spot before? ... where a card shows up on the 'Bay and you immediately KNOW you HAVE to have it no matter what it costs??? What was it?

I've had a few cards pop up that were essential to my collection that I knew would be mine. No matter the cost. Only once did I feel that way about a card and back down. It was a $20 card at best and I gave up at $110 IIRC. Good thing is I later got to know the owner and rec'd it free.

Another time I missed out bidding on one of them and contacted the buyer and she was really cool and sold it to me for what she paid. And she even was on the look out for me trying to help me complete the set. Now I am only missing 3 cards for the master set of Robinson from the set. They are 3 of the 1 of 1 gold parallels. I have all 5 of the Jersey #/10, Blue #/10, Red #/75, Green #/199, Base #/575. Hope those 3 1 of 1's come up some day.
Good luck with your winning (at a good price) tomorrow!
Patrick
I did win it, but the underbidder was only eight bucks behind me.

<< <i>I put a ridiculous bid in on a Bossy OPC PSA 9 rookie a few months ago and still lost... I think someone else did the same and ended up with it for almost 900
Good luck with your winning (at a good price) tomorrow!

They were talking about the greatest NHL records on the NHL Network - Gretzky's points, Glenn Hall's consecutive starts etc.
They also listed Bossy's 6 consecutive seasons of 50 goals. I hated the Islanders and Bossy as rivals to the 1980's Gretzky and Oilers - but have come to appreciate Bossy's accomplishments.
However, one commentator explained what it would take to beat Gretzky's scoring record - it was insane - an average of 100 points for 20 years !
I have several auto'd cards of 500 goal scorers including Bossy - but the Gretzky eludes me - a price I cannot afford.
It's not very impressive... but here it is:
.... it's significant to me. Why? Well, it was the LAST card I needed to complete my all PSA 8 or better 1975 Topps set!
A whopping $4.25 plus shipping this card cost me! WooHoo!
I'm in the process of registering my set right now... looks like it'll end up around the 18th currently finest set when I'm done putting everything in.
Good luck on everyone's hunts! I'm going in for surgery Wednesday (the 30th,) but plan on working on my next project in a few weeks when I get back at it!
Oh.. and happy holidays everyone!

I wish you a speedy recovery with your surgery!

Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
What a great set to have slabbed and in PSA 8 - next to the 1971 set, probably the hardest 1970's set to find in mint.
I hope your surgery is just removing some gum or wax stain ...
cheers
I have a few similar projects like this, but no where near complete. I think I'll continue working on upgrades for this '75 set, but will start to focus on my '71 project.
As far as my surgery goes... I'm having a couple of discs fused in my neck. Even though I'm still relatively young, I guess my neck is in bad shape.
I have 3 slipped discs, one of which that's threatening my spinal cord... that's the one the doc will be removing Wednesday.
I'm remaining positive on the whole thing... and know I'm in good hands. From what I hear, recovery takes a while. Don't worry, it won't be long before I'm back on-line!

FIRST - Best of luck with your surgery. You will be in my prayers.
SECOND - CONGRATS on getting the last card for your set. You will remember the 'ole Met 3rd baseman forever!
THIRD - Make sure your doc provides a laptop and Internet service so you can stay updated with this board!

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
