Anyone who disputes that Felix Potvin is not a great seller is pathetically mistaken. 36 actual eBay sales of $10+ since December 9th says you are dead wrong... and this from a guy who barely accomplished anything in the NHL.
90 days is more than a big enough sample size for any modern player. Again, numbered parallels selling for $20-$40 is fairly common for a lot of semistars in all sports. There's nothing about Potvin that brings him anywhere close to Hideo Nomo territory (parallels get up to $1500 for the tough ones). I'm not saying there aren't guys out there collecting Potvin, but there are also guys out there paying similar prices for guys like Christian Okoye (Link), Kirk Gibson (Link)), Grant Hill (Link), Desmond Howard (Link), etc....
These are guys just off the top of my head that I know sell above their accomplishments, so again, what is it about Potvin that you think makes his prices so out of line with the rest of the hobby? He didn't do much in the NHL but somehow became a local hero so people collect him. He's not the only one by any stretch, and the fact that you think he is truly shows how little you know about the modern market as a whole. There are guys like this all over the place.

You haven't proven ANYTHING other than there are other players out there that demand a premium even after having a sub-par career. And the only example of yours that you showed more than one card was Grant Hill... AND HE IS STILL ACTIVE. Why not post a link to all the Hideo Nomo sales or all the Okoye sales? To have a fair comparison, let's see how many $10+ sales they have had since December 9th. You simply don't know what you are talking about.

If you can't see that I'm using that as a gauge of sales, then I don't know what else to tell you. Why don't you tell us how many $10+ sales of all these other INACTIVE players that were only good for a brief moment in time.

So you're saying that 15% of his cards go for $10 or more?
Show me something of Potvin's that puts him even remotely in this league of "insane prices". And this isn't even the tip of the iceberg for Nomo; do a search on these forums for Nomo threads started and you'll find some real eyebrow raisers.
And why is $10 your gauge of what an insane price is? If you knew anything about the modern market, you would realize there are 80s and 90s commons/semistars that bring $500 plus on a regular basis. A common card selling for $4.56 is not news. Show me a couple Potvin cards selling for more than $250 (independent of them being in a set where comparable players sell for the same) and I would agree that his cards are bringing insane prices. Until then all you've proven is that low end Potvin cards sell for a slight premium. If that's enough to make you dive into your monster boxes and digging them out then more power to you.

Convinced of what. I'm comparing him to Hideo Nomo, who in fact, was much more accomplished at his sport than Potvin and played in a MUCH more popular league.

You listed almost all autos for the "insane" pricing. Potvin is/was a signer, Nomo isn't. Case closed. Plus there are FAR less Potvin cards listed at any given moment and FAR less high dollar items in Potvin's playing days as there are in baseball. You can't win this argument. You telling me Potvin sales are dead on with many other failed sports stars is ludicrous.
I never once claimed that Potvin pulls the exact same prices as that of Hideo Nomo or anyone else, I meant he was hockey's VERSION a Hideo Nomo type player. I never said he outsells everybody everywhere. My point is, he regularly gets MUCH higher prices than most FAILED sports stars.
At least I am not attacking you and insulting you. Grow up, friend.

This board sucks. It really does. People like you are awful and make it what it is. You attack new posters... why. Does it make you feel better about yourself? Do you feel like more of a man now that you have insulted me and attempted to make fun of my thread? It was a simple question that doesn't warrant such responses as yours. You really need to grow up. This forum is like Lord of the Flies. Absolutely ridiculous behavior here.
i'm convinced those two hockey players were actually communicating telepathically about their intentions to go out drinking later that evening.....then the telepathic refs broke it up when they overheard them start to telepathically discuss cheating on their wives.

While it's certainly hard for me to argue that this board pretty much blows now compared to where it was 3-5 years ago, a big contributing factor to that is that the boards are saturated with pointless crap because people start threads every time a card related idea pops into their head, regardless of how irrelevant it is. And then they get upset when the rest of the community doesn't 'get' the ground-breaking revelation that the OP has epiphanized (I probably made that word up). I feel that your idea that a player is white hot because he has several cards selling in the $2-$15 range would qualify. If this were in person and we were at a card show telling me Felix Potvin is at all comparable to Hideo Nomo in sales I would say the same exact thing to your face.
Also, don't take yourself so seriously; people around here tend to not react well to that. Most of the people here are just having a little fun with you (myself included). The only one taking this at all seriously is you. Learn to laugh at yourself a little and you will make more friends. Or continue being serious and arguing every one of your points to the death and continue to be mocked. I could truly care less, but if you do feel as though you are being run off the CU boards you might want to do a little self-examination and figure out why this type of thing keeps happening to you in various arenas (just a guess).

My son has always been a huge Felix Potvin fan. He has played hockey all his life and he and I love the game (he's 22 now). When the Leafs would come to Boston, he would constantly ask to go to a game to see his hero. I have to tell you, I never understood his sincere interest of Potvin. I was never a fan but I took him to quite a few games. I always made sure we sat on the side where the Bruins would shoot twice so he could see his hero close up. I would root for the Bruins and he would root for Potvin. When I saw this thread, I really laughed to myself as it brought back some great memories. As every dad knows, at some point in the teen years, your son thinks your an idiot. Hockey - and these Potvin Leaf / Bruins games, took the edge off.
A bit off topic but when I woke up this morning, I did not think one of the topics that would run thru my head would be this great old memory... Dave

Why don't you find us a very limited, not autographed and popular Potvin card like the Nomo Crusade and tell us it didn't get an insane price. You can't, because there haven't been any listed as of late. Keep talking in circles. You haven't proven anything, yet you keep bumping your chest in triumph.

Dave >>
He ended up playing for the Bruins as well.
<< <i>"Kind of off-topic, but how come any time anyone mentions anything other than baseball they get "the business"? Am I missing something?"
yes, according to George Carlin, hockey is not a sport
Ah, I miss George.
<< <i>George Carlin's cards sell for insane prices. >>
Why don't you find us a very limited, not autographed and popular Potvin card like the Nomo Crusade and tell us it didn't get an insane price. You can't, because there haven't been any listed as of late. Keep talking in circles. You haven't proven anything, yet you keep bumping your chest in triumph.

So it's just a fluke that Potvin outsells, by more than double, one of the best and most popular players in NHL history in a nearly identical set?
