1988 Fleer Basketball LIVE Box Rip

In honor of my friend Gecko, and since this box is worthless, I have decided to rip open an entire box of 1988 Fleer Basketball....I have 3, so no biggie...I will post scans once a week, as I will only open one pack a week until the entire box is gone. Not a bad first rip....pulled a Jordan....just wish it was centered better.....

I am not a pack buster by no means...I am mainly into buying and selling already graded cards......maybe PSA will have a deal next month and I can send some of these off.....the corners look really sharp...I am guessing the centering is gonna be the issue on these...

I ripped my box in 45 minutes...at one pack a week, it will take you approximately 8043x as long as it took me. No offense, but I like my method more...although I am an instant gratification type of guy at times.
Looking for rare Randy Moss rookies and autos, as well as '97 PMG Red Football cards for my set.

At one pack a week, you better hope the PSA deal is in effect around July 2010!

Yea...to be honest with you, unless these are centered 50/50, I probably won't sub any of these except for the stars and stickers......Can't afford to pay $5 per slab that unless it gets a '10', is worthless......

Jordan, Pippen, Stockton, Rodman, Miller - those you sub if they are 9 minimum...like you said the 9's for other cards are not worth it...and be careful of hard to see print spots on the black backgrounds.

One pack a week??? Rip them all tonight! Patience is overrated.

I may pick up the pace after the holidays....I am not very speedy with the uploading of pics, as I have just recently learned how to do it.......if it wasn't for how annoying it is to upload the pics, I would definitely rip them faster!
  • well bobby, let me predict the future, you will get at least 3 of everyone and 4 of some of the players. I hope they are all PSA 9 or 10 quality . Have fun ripping, and I am like you I would not sell any 88 fleer BSKT for under 400 a box. Screw all the low ballers and the non believers that think it can't be pure in less it comes from illinois.

The Terry Porter IS getting subbed!!! It looks really sharp....my scanner doesn't do them justice......I really need another scanner, but I am one to resist change.....

I wonder what song was playing on the P.A. during that Blazers game to inspire TP to throw the devil horns.

I'm thinking either "Rock You Like A Hurricane" or maybe "Rainbow in the Dark"

I think the top to bottom on the rodman keeps at a 9 best case..sorry

Agree. Centering is nice, but not 10 worthy.

Yup.. with that centering and all the print dots I don't like it as a 10 let alone a 9

Nah....no print dots are present...that is my sorry scanner...

Based on centering alone, only the Eddie Johnson has a decent shot at a 10 from the cards pictured. The Porter and Kevin Williams have an outside shot but it would most likely take a few tries and probably not worth it since they are high pop and only worth around $15 in PSA 10.

Am I the only one that sometimes wonders how card companies choose their photos? I mean, is that the best photo you could find of the biggest star in the sport?

  • Here's hoping you get more 9s than 8s!

I kinda like the Jordan pic. Now the Johnson, why couldn't they center him on the card?

They wanted to give us a glimpse of Laker Legend Mike Smrek.

I thought the Johnson was off centered so they could show the ref in the background....isn't he the one that fixed games??

The ONE that fixed games? The refs have been in Sterns pocket for decades....
