Whatz new with the 5 oz silver Park / America coins (aka Hockey Pucks)?
Has anyone heard anything on this front? Are they going to be dealer distributed? I see nothing on the 2010 Mint schedule (thanks GB).
I'd also like to know when they will be available at the parks themselves.
Looks like these may be one of the more interesting releases this coming (ho hum) year -- if any...

I wrote in another thread months ago how amazing it is to think the mint couldn't/can't produce 1oz ASE's, but they can produce these 5oz silver horse-chokers?
Like I said then, buy silver mining stocks, your congressman did.

A question that needs to be repeated, often - to lots of Congressional offices. Addressing this question would be a better use of Congressional time and effort than what they are doing these days.
I knew it would happen.

<< <i>TTT for the Saturday gang. Anyone in the know? >>
Is this a done deal---legislated and signed into law?

<< <i>I would like to see these in person when made. They might be interesting. >>
I thought that the C&C Lincoln set was enough of a foray into Proletariat Numismatics for you?

True. That was not a fun experience.

<< <i>I'll buy them if they aren't priced too much higher than their melt value. >>
Not from the mint, you won't. However, maybe not too long until the secondary market, especially if the price of silver rises.
The fact that they will be FIVE OUNCES is a FIRST for the US Mint (that I know of) and therefore will have special significance for collectors and newcomers alike.
Just because it's different is no cause to poo-poo, silver has a special place with many collectors and investors.
I -- for one -- am excited about this series and feel that it's about time some of the most magnificent national landmarks are recognized in our coinage.
So I ask again -- anyone have news about this?
<< <i>Of course there will be a premium on these, just like every other coin -- what it will be has yet to be determined.

The Mint put out 6 and 12 troy oz silver medals in 1988 for the Young Astronaut program...they were cool and i think these will be huge sellers no matter what the premuim
That also relates to why the mint can and cannot produce all these things. Some are required by law, others are authorized (but not required). Guess which one falls off the plate when there are not enough resources to do them all.
<< <i>Yes it is passed an signed into law.

Where?
HR 3405 and S. 758 both died in committee. If you have different bills that did pass, please cite them.

And another.Since they are only being distributed through the bullion dealers, I would not expect them to be on the public release schedule.
Lastly, the US Mint says they will be producing them. Mint Link
Anyway, according to Coin World two new presses have been installed at the Philadelphia Mint to be dedicated to production of these 5 ozers. They are to be distributed only through the Mint's silver bullion buyers (same as bullion ASEs).
Wonder why the presses went to Philly instead of West Point?

Any help locating any of these OBW rolls would be gratefully appreciated!
AND, it also disallows these to be sold beyond the year the quarter is issued. How does that affect the "authorized dealers"? I'm guessing they can be sold in other years, just not from the Mint...
(3) DISTRIBUTION-
`(A) IN GENERAL- In addition to the authorized dealers utilized by the Secretary in distributing bullion coins and solely for purposes of distributing bullion coins issued under this subsection, the Director of the National Park Service, or the designee of the Director, may purchase...
`(2) AVAILABILITY FOR SALE- Bullion coins minted under paragraph (1)–
`(A) shall become available for sale no sooner than the first day of the calendar year in which the circulating quarter dollar of which such bullion coin is a duplicate is issued; and
`(B) may only be available for sale during the year in which such circulating quarter dollar is issued.
<< <i>My bad. I got confused with the palladium UHR legislation.
You had me doubting myself. I don't like to post wrong information, and I felt sure I had seen that it passed. I just had to go back and double check myself!
Will the Mint be selling Proof examples directly to the public? Or, are they only going to be BU examples minted?
It does provide for proof silver coins in the regular quarters for Mint sale.
<< <i>Yet another opportunity to buy someone's cherrypicking rejects & paying a middleman at the same time. NO THANKS! On the other hand... I'd give serious consideration if the U.S.Mint were to sell them directly to me. >>
I agree 100%! Count me out too!
Still fishing for news...
