Overpaid for another Shilling

Well not really, but one of Coinkats threads got me thinking about when it's ok to "overpay".
It's an 1819/8 in NGC 64 that I bought last weekend, paid about 50-60% over book price, but several hundred less than I was willing to pay which made me happy. Now these aren't really rare but I would classify them as scarce in all grades, and very scarce in Mint State grades. It's a pop 3/1 coin at NGC with a total of 6 graded, and I think PCGS has graded a couple in Mint State. We can usually safely ignore pops on World coins since such a large percentage of them have not been graded, but I do regularly check several UK dealer sites and all the major auctions and these just don't become available all that often in unc. And besides the grade is has the right look to me.
So I believe that on scarce or rare coins it's ok to pay whatever you can afford, when the right coin becomes available. This seems to me to apply whether it's a $100 coin or $100,000, and whether the grade is Fine or MS67.
ps: please don't tell my wife I said that.

That one is certainly in the "eye appeal adds a lot of value" league.
