If I had the money, I'd collect DMPL Morgans which may surprise some folks.
The reality is that the Morgan Dollar, although way over collected, has device features which are uncomparable to any other coin.
A good strike, and even a poor strike for that matter, makes the devices look like they were literally "glued" onto the fields. The contact points appear to be a complete 90 degree angle where there is no doubt about where the device begins and the field ends. The fields on clad coins, both Cn and Silver, tend to melt into the devices creating an angular weld. This aspect was never demonatrated more clearly than on the San Francisco Commemorative where the Morgan Dollar reverse was used.
Compare ANY SF Commemorative with a Morgan and the differences are stark.I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

Hmmmm, well, I DO love Ike's, especially the reverse. This one is my favorite, It the one I had to work for the hardest to find.
My first 1971 S/S Eisenhower, Seemed like it took forever to find it
Had to look through many Ikes to get this one.

Although do not own one, my favorite dollar is the 1794 flowing hair as it was the first dollar to be made by the US Mint. It has a history pedigree second to none. I wouldn't toss a 1795 flowing hair into a vending machine if one ever came my way. -planchet0

I have to cast my vote for the Peace dollar. Completely leaving aside the fact that it's actually affordable for me to collect, I think the design is fantastic. The representation of Liberty is stunning and the most feminine to appear on a dollar coin from a modern standpoint.

I like Trade dollars best with a foucs on carson city output but I think Peace dollars were the last great american coin made0

DBHE. The obverse design of Liberty is beautiful, and the reverse imparts a nice feeling of strength and somewhat of a Chinese dragon feel with the clouds above the stars. The original DB "Scrawny Chicken" reverse doesn't do it nearly as much for me.
