Got Grades - PCGS Morgans

Sent 17 Morgans in for grading. Most of them were from this thread.

I am a happy man. Three MS65's. Two PL's. I understand the one 1878-P 8TF "Genuine". Will have to check the 1889-S out when it comes back.

I've never understood how posters to threads such as this could comment (favorably or unfavorably) on the grading results, without having seen the coins. Or at the very least, excellent images of them. For all we know, what seems like a very high/good grade might be a bad break for the submitter, or what appears to be a very low/bad grade might be a lucky break. image

Flame away if you wish, image but if you do, please explain it.

Edited to add: At least in this case, the thread referenced another one which contained images. I'm curious - did those of you who responded here see the images in the other thread before doing so? Thanks.

I made a nearly identical comment in one of these threads a while ago, so if you find out, please let me know.

I appreciate your coming clean and admitting that you copied me. So what if your post was months BEFORE mine!image

  • I bought all of these raw. Most were part of a partial set (except the 1878-P 8TFs and two of the 1878-P 7TFs). I was getting a little nervous on a couple of the coins. I'm getting better with grading, but some of these were high priced for my budget. Took a chance. Examined all of the coins with the dealer, came to an agreement on grades, and paid just under greysheet bid.

The coins had a very light film on them when I took them out of the old albums. Wasn't PVC. Didn't smell like smoke. A very quick rinse in acetone made the luster pop. Very noticeable improvement on a couple coins.

Need to check out the 89-S in AU58, as I paid MS60 bid for it.
    Paid MS63 bid for the 80-O, 81-P, 81-CC, 03-O.
The set also included an 1882-O. I sent this in on a separate submission. It's an O/S VAM 5 EDS and was graded MS62 (pops now 3/0).

Not bragging about making a couple dollars. Feel good that I took a chance, selected good ones for grading, and ended up with some nice coins.

My comment was limited to two coins. Both PCGS MS65. I doubt that they are dogs.

Submitter was pleased with results and I'm happy he's happy!
