Only Days left to purchase a 2009 Ultra High Relief Double Eagle Gold Coin for $1,539..

How Come I just don't quite believe them?

Maybe because the Mint is going to be striking the 2010 Eagles late or not at all and these might be back to fill a 'lack of product gap'?

Maybe because of the way the Mint 'did it' to everyone with the 2007 W $50 Platinum Reverse Proofs?

Maybe because the Mint could give a rat's A$$ as top Mgmt lives in a fantasy world pretending they know how market product and sell retail?

My understanding is they will sell these until they are sold out. NOTHING says they can't sell into 2010.

I believe it because the Mint is saying the coin will no longer be for sale after that date. I don't recall the Mint ever saying the 2007 W $50 Platinum Reverse Proofs would no longer be available after a certain date, just a maximum mintage. Unless and until the Mint goes back on its word, I don't see a reason for concocting conspiracy theories.

They've added it to the "Last Opportunity" tab. I would guess that, unless it was added by error, they mean it. I assume they'll melt those left over. --Jerry

Will the mint lower their price on the UHR later this week based on the drop of gold price? People considering a purchase may want to wait a few days.

The bullion pieces were to be struck to demand, but not after Dec 31, 2009. There's nothing wrong with reminding potential buyers of that.

They’ll likely make some extras for replacement purposes, then destroy them after the return period has expired.
