Who had more fun than I did yesterday ? Yes..coin related

Yesterday I spent 7 hours looking at thousands of raw coins that will be auctioned Monday.
Hundreds of morgan and Peace rolls..from AG-MS.
Boxes and boxes of mixed dates and grades.
Lots of mercs,walkers,and mint sets.

Reminds me of the old days when I worked in a coin shop sorting mint sealed bags of dollars through circulated Lincolns.

It sure helps sharpen your grading skills,as if you make mistakes bidding too high,you lose big time.

Everyone should have the opportunity to do this in some form or another.

I love coins,and this took me back to my start in 1963 working in a coin shop at 9 years old.

I would have spent more time there,but I had family to spend time with

b&m auction..ends today at 3pm..

I would not bid in this auction,or any other auction without seeing the coins..you could get in big trouble..like buying a roll of morgans with pvc on all 20 coins..

I only looked at 1/3 of the lots in 1 day..would take a full 4 days to look everything over closely.

Last Friday I spent hours looking through the same lots you did and by no means was it a totally "fun" experience. Sure a few lots here and there and a few rolls of dollars here and there are okay, but it gets to you after your fifth 400+ coin lot.

I am generally too busy to attend these "events", but, I was told this was one sale I did not want to miss. So, I spent a ton of time looking at thosuands and thouands and thousands of coins. I placed tens upon tens of thouands of dollars of bids only to win a tiny portion of what I was after. There was a single lot I bid more than $5,000 on and won it for under $2,500, so at least it appears that I probably earned more than minimum wage putting in all the time that I did. But, I doubt I will devote this much time to a sale of this nature any time in the near future (but, I do appreciate the opportunity to "play").

The lot I really wanted was a roll of 1941 bu walkers..
I bid almost double ask,and was still outbid.
I guess I do know how to grade walkers

I went close to 5x Ask to ensure I would win my key lot! I got outbid on nearly all the modern gold and silver ... bids were being calculated where the winning bidder was buying the stuff for $5 or $10 less than they can buy it for all day long dealer to dealer? Crazy. Someone made me "pay up" on a fresh 2004 Proof Platinum set ($5,000+). I had been winning it for less than $3,000 until the end. Too bad.
