If you were single what % of your income would go to coins?

Less than now, since I'd have to pay 100% of the mortgage, insurance, electric, phone, etc all by myself.
The only reason I got married was so that I could buy more coins.

I'm at about 75% of my disposable income. Mostly American bullion (Eagles, Spouses and Buffalos).

Ive never been much of a ladies man anyway.

Fortunately, I have a dog, so the number is a little lower.

The part that I don't pay to lawyers, alimony, and child support. I think I'll just stay married. I think I can buy more coins that way.

If I became divorced, my coin purchasing would grind almost to a halt. Having someone to pay half the living expenses makes a big difference in how one lives.

it is more fun to look for silver at the local banks then it is buying a
1200 dollar lib half eagle.

i get the same amount of happiness from finding a 90% silver dime.

also a 1914 wheat cent was found on the floor of a grocery store

I would say about 20% all of my life, I'm 56 now and that 20% let me have a great time collecting coins,

Honestly, probably more than now. But then, if I were single, I would have never met my wife, and I would have never been inspired to go back for my master's, get a better job, work hard, make more money, etc.... AND, my WIFE's the one who bought me that 1909-s Lincoln to fill that hole in my childhood set, getting the whole ball rolling again. So ow that I think about it, I would either spend a greater percentage of less money, or none at all.

I'm single and nearly all of my money is going to college, mortgage, phone, et cetera. I seldom eat so that leaves a few bucks for coins and bullion every once in a while.

I have to keep reminding myself that the schooling is an investment in itself.

If I were single, young, and earning a modest but tolerable income outside of the "coins for sale" realm, I would make a budget, which would allow for savings of at least 10%/yr, assigning a percentage of that to a long term collection (not more than 25%), and buy only a few very special coins a year. Collecting coins is a hobby which happens to bring some appreciation over time. It is no substitute over a long time for other carefully selected investments.( I know that gold has gone up and RE down in the short run but this year is not forever) If you are lucky you will accumulate more resources and the percentage allocated to coins can increase as you have more expendable income. Remember non special coins may not be as liquid as you think or take time to dispose of at the price you think it should be worth.
BTW, when you get a spouse, select carefully; she/he may turn out to be your most precious asset or your greatest liability.

I am single, and it is below 10%, which is a portion of my disposable income. The % seems to be dropping over time as I become more patient (and the easy holes in my typeset have been filled)....Mike

I'm divorced, and my house is paid for. However, I've got 2 kids, one going to private High School and one going to a private University, so that is the main money pit right now (I did save up for that for years though). I do have a girlfriend, so there is some definite outlay on bright sparkly stuff and nice meals etc., but in the grand scheme of things it's not too bad. I'd say about 25% of my gross income is going to collectibles right now, with it split about 80 - 20, space collectibles to coins.
