Has PCGS Changed the way they denote SMS coins?

1965; 66, and 67 SMS coins have been graded using the MS designator on the inserts.
This PCGS intrigued me because it uses a Specimen (SP grade.

Is this a new policy or did this one simply slip through the cracks?

I've seen that on other SMS coins lately.

I think it's a policy change.

I don't know how long the designation has been used, but this isn't a one off.

New SMS coins are now SP. I don't know about vintage coins graded now. --Jerry

PCGS did the same with the 1921 zerbe proof morgan dollars. They used to be designated as proofs (zerbe) and now they are mint state special strike specimens. Arbitrary and incorrect in my opinion.

They changed a lot of the speciality coins in the last year to SP. The satin finish, special mint set, and some commerative coins all changed.

If you do a cert. Verication on your second coin this comes up.
