sumnomsumnom Posts: 5,963 ✭✭✭
I've been getting a lot of these in circulation recently. They seem to come in waves. In the last two weeks the following have come to me:

1965 (x2)
1966 (x2)
1967 (x2)
1969
1969-D
1971
1973
1974

I got a 1971 today in change at the grocery. It's in a very nice attractive VG+.

All these have been pretty beat up but from time to time so fairly nice ones come my way. Perhaps they have been sitting in someone's sock drawer for a few decades.

I have to admit, I do like the 1965-1974 quarters.

I recently started filling up a cheap album with clad quarters that I find in my pocket change.
Even with all the different directions this hobby has taken me, it's still really fun to fill up an album.
I'm not picky about the condition, but they cannot be damaged. I check my pocket change at the end of the day
and am still excited when I find one that I need still.

I still love to see what might come to me in change. It's not often that I save much but I do like looking. All those quarters I listed will soon be released back into circulation.
  • 1965-1974 is certainly a very interesting area for reverse varieties on quarters.

James Wiles and I count 7 different reverses plus a class III doubled die from two of them. Wiles' numbers are RDV003 thru RDV009 plus a RDV006/RDV007 combo. Some I find very obvious and some rather subtle.

    1965 comes with 3 reverses, 1968 S and 1969 D with 5 apiece. 1969 (P) and 1969 S have only one each, but not the same one.

The above hread has a clickable link to the James Wiles data and also has a table of Wiles' numbers versus forum lingo versus my article on the subject.
Early in the thread is a clickable link called "70-D circ" which shows 4 different 1970 D reverses including the doubled-die.

Proofartwork, thank for the info and the links. Very useful.

And thank you all for the nice images. I am liking these more and more, I must say.

Here is today's haul for 1965-1974 quarters from circulation:

    1965 (2x)
    1970-D
    1972-D
    1974-D

I'll have to see what reverse is on the 1970-D!
  • Thanks, sumnom
