Marauderrt10: Very pretty toned Peace Dollar. Is the reverse also toned or white?
Do you think that it was envelope toned (i.e. in kraft paper 2x2 coin envelope)?

Why do Peace dollars tone differently than Morgan's? Is it the bags?

more than likely i think it was something along those lines, its very clean, its an OGH MS64 which i think if i sent in now it would grade MS65, but i like it where it is image
  • "Why do Peace dollars tone differently than Morgan's? Is it the bags? " One reason is Peace Dollars did not spend the amount of time in bags as did Morgans. Also I believe they were made from melted down Morgans which may have changed the metal characteristics to a degree.

Also i believe they had a different planchet acid bath than the morgans did.

And HRH pretty much threw down the gauntlet on peace dollars a few months ago. Ain't no way it's going up anytime soon. image

Peace bucks are recycled Morgans. Morgans were struck from freshly mined silver, Peace bucks were not.
This is what I've read. It may or may not have anything to do with the colorful toning, which I happen to like.
Sure would like a DMPL Peace buck though. image

So .... at one time they would slab a rainbow toned Peace Dollar, but now all are considered AT ...

... but the grading standards have not changed.

    Right.
