Consumer Reports- A little help for my photo friends

I sometimes can't take a picture to save my soul.....as you'll notice below. But if you can read the review in the pic below, you'll find out what CR has to say about some DSLR's which have been mentioned on this list. I have been using the Canon T1i, but notice not much difference in CR's score. Also, note their suggestions for MACRO lenses. Good luck w/your coin photography!

I don't see any suggestions for macro lenses. The lens that has "macro" on it is not a true macro lens.

To the far right there is the very brief article.............BTW, google that lens and see some startling close ups of insects especially the red wasp....awesome. I'll try to find it and post it.

The Tamron 18-200 "macro" has very limited macro capabilities. It only focuses to 1:3.7 - barely adequate for taking pics of a silver dollar. True macro lenses will go to 1:2 or 1:1.

The Nikon 18-55 kit lens focuses closer at 1:3.2 and there is no mention of macro on it...

Not so. I've tried going 1 to 1 and the lens is about 1/4 inch away from the subject.....way too close for good lighting. The lens would also only capture a portion of the Silver Dollar.....JMO.....

Can't find the closeup of the wasp at the moment, but it is as good as any insect closeup I've seen
