How and why do the %'s change without any notice?

I was about to buy a coin the other night with the 20% bing back but it jumped down to 8% an hour later...

Increases are random and infrequent--like a slot machine.

I offered a certified coin in another thread to the first person who notifies me of an increase from 8%....I have some serious Christmas shopping to do and it would be nice to get a chunk of cash back so I am holding out right now for at least 10%

It's the 'net, it isn't that hard to do.
With anything marketing like this, they likely have trending being automatically watched. When they want to push traffic/volume/sales, they increase.
Once they get to a level they want, whether an hour later, or a day later, it can be set to automatically ratchet down.

Some folks will be upset (people always get upset even when they have nothing vested) but some folks will benefit. Moral of the story is to strike quickly if it is something you want.

Note: I had about 6 different type coins I was mulling over that were eligible on ebay. They were/are all OVER priced right now but the 20% would have made them about right. I snoozed, I lost. I moved on.

Does this take into account that different searches produce different percentages?

Link not reliable during periods of % change. Does eventually update - after I bought what you were looking for.

Note that different searches will produce different percentages only right before and right after a change in the percentage by Ebay/Bing. Once new percentage settles in (time period unknown) all searchwords will produce the new percentage. This can be used as a good clue that percentage is about to drop - or rise.
