one a year lincoln set

Anyone here collect sets by date, such as the Lincoln cent which would now encompass 101 pieces (102 if you include the 09 and the 09vdb as seperate coins.) What is your opinion of such sets, are they true subsets of the regular series or just incomplete sets. Are these year collectors just fooling themselves or ?? buffnixx

Not exactly what you are seeking, but right now I'm putting together a "First Decade" Lincoln set (1909- 1919 PDS) in PCGS XF45- AU58).

I've been searching for these about seven months now and am about 70% complete.

I believe many people collect classic series as date sets (i.e. Seated Dimes and Half Dimes, etc).

I'm sure some collect Lincolns this way too, although it is somewhat easier to obtain all of the mint marks still.

  • I just consider them a date set. I like the idea myself and see nothing wrong with it.

I don't find anything odd about doing a year set of any series as you get enjoyment from collecting in a way you are can spend within
a budget and time available. At some time you may change your approach and add each mint mark and varitey for a given series.
The pay-off may come in as you picked quality coins and truely enjoyed your time and money spent.

  • I am almost done with a date set of Lincoln wheats. Just need the 22-D. I like doing just one per year due to cost and also many of the branch mint coins are poorly struck and very hard to fine decent examples. Its been alot of fun building this set over the last two years. All are MS. Also doing the same with Morgans. Just need 92-95 ( of course)
