Photo Editing Program Question

Finally upgraded the camera, now I am looking for a good software program that will let me do all kinds of cool things, like black backgrounds, have the tag in the background between the obverse/reverse, and crop the coins as circles not squares. What programs do you suggest? Currently, I have the starter edition of Microsoft Digital editor for 06. Should I just upgrade to the full version?
