Just Received This Email Offer From China Via Ebay

I'm presuming that a few of you folks have received this type of email as well. It's a new one on me through the ebay system. I'm presuming that these rascals are now marketing their fine quality pieces through the "Direct" method.

I would be very careful, if I were you. I do not want to cast false aspersions, but the coins might be counterfeit. image
  • So when do we get to see your new "world-class" Bust Dollar collection? image
Re: Slabbed coins - There are some coins that LIVE within clear plastic and wear their labels with pride... while there are others that HIDE behind scratched plastic and are simply dragged along by a label. Then there are those coins that simply hang out, naked and free image

LEGIT! I purchased 10 coins from them and they are totally solid, all well struck! I will not post photos here in fear that you guys will steal my seller from me by offering more than the $10 I've been getting my bust dollars for. The 1804 I think I got a steal on.... $20! image

What do you suppose Chinese authorities would do if these crooks were counterfeiting Chinese coins?
Too bad the penalty isn't the same for counterfeiting our stuff.
    When in doubt, don't.

This and other verisons have been circulating for sometime.

Most likely you will receive some other versions now that you have received this one.

But wouldn't an old time collector know better?image

    "if" and "were"

They "are." There's one coin that sticks out in my mind, the Chinese Auto Dollar. I've seen several fakes in fake PCGS holders.

In times past, loyalty to the cause of the populace was to be found everywhere. The will of the Group of Seventeen was the will of everyone.
The people meeting in counsel may judge, but no one is to receive more than a hundred blows.

Careful, you might make WTCG angry with such a generalization.

I'm sure that he is telling the truth - about the coins being off the market for many years!

I'm just as certain that they are original (just not authentic).

I remember Coin World took a tour of that guy's factory. He trains up the peasant kids really well, and they just sweat bullets making those things. He spoke of how proud he was of their work

They're not the Franklin Mint. But hey. It's a third world country.

Suspicious about unsolicited e-mails from someone with ambiguous feedback information and coins of possibly dubious origins? Fine, I would have concerns myself. Simply delete or ignore the solicitation and go on with life. Judge each situation individually and make the decision that would be the most beneficial to you.

What I would find unacceptable would be when people here begin to jeer the grammar skills of the author or when people make a blanket statement that assumes all buyers or sellers from one particular region or race is making a presence for solely ulterior motives. Remember, if you were typing or speaking in a language other than English chances are you would make some mistakes too.

Semi-OT, but did bust dollars make it to China for trade purposes in the early 19th century in significant quantity?

I get that mail fairly frequently. I just send to Ebay as spam.

Delete and go on my way.
